Looking for an Alternative to the Normal Colgate Total Toothpaste

Does anyone know what would be the best toothpaste with similar texture to the plain Colgate Total toothpaste?

I went to BigW and noticed that the product was rebranded somewhat and the price doubled. $4. I almost spewed but in a rush I bought one.

I've tried the Cavity Protection one in the past but that one seems to be a lot more abrasive, which is the budget version at Woolworths. I've also tried the colgate total whitening products and colgate whitening products with tartar control, both which feel like they have sort of additional abrasive which I'd prefer not to be in there. I think the particles are slightly bigger because you can definitely feel it. The ingredients are probably the same but the texture is different because of this. Naturally this also affects how abrasive the product is.

Now you probably think I should get sensitive toothpaste but I don't think I'm at that point yet. I don't experience any problems when eating ice cold foods. My mouth is just slightly sensitive and I'm not wanting to damage the enamel by using something too abrasive.

Whitening products are always going to be slightly more abrasive, so even though it is cheaper to buy the whitening products $3.50 for a large tube of Colgate Whitening with Tartar Control (190g special at Coles). I still bought the new small Total version (115g) $4….

What does everyone use? I'm sure a lot of people use this previously $2 budget Colgate Total toothpaste. What are you going to buy now it has doubled in price?

Aldi have a clone of colgate total

    • I found a seller on ebay, beautysecret12, selling 'old new stock' of colgate total original.

I first messaged them (over a week or so ago now), and confirmed that it was indeed 'new old stock'. I then bought 2 cases of the stuff, and indeed when it arrived it is definitely the old formula (that actually works).

This is the listing I bought,
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/24-x-Colgate-190g-TOOTHPASTE-TOT…

So, if anyone is actually interested in buying a few year supply, here are 2 additional links to smaller bulk amount. (The amount I bought is going to last 5+ years.
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/12-x-Colgate-190g-TOOTHPASTE-TOT…
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/12-x-Colgate-110g-TOOTHPASTE-TOT…

I suggest you message beautysecret12 with the item your interested in, confirm it is 'new old stock' with 'triclosan' included. And then order the good stuff :)

Btw, in case your wondering, toothpaste technically doesn't have an expire date. It does become 'less effective' over time, but generally it will last 3-5 years, providing it is kept in a dark cool spot.

Also, I will be copy and pasting this to everyone who has expressed an interest in the good old formula that works. Sorry if it looks like I'm spamming.

      Cheers :)

It's still $2.10 at Priceline and probably similar price at many other stores.

    • I stocked up a few of them at $1.40, but it is not available online.

The one I was looking for is this one:
      https://www.priceline.com.au/colgate-total-original-toothpas…

It's got a smooth texture which doesn't have an abrasive feel. Paired with a soft toothbrush it is amazing. I think other toothpastes might be better though. I will probably be on the lookout for something new if the price doesn't return to something more reasonable. I could buy Colgate sensitive for $1 more when it is regularly on sale (e.g. now at Woolworths)…

The new picture looks like this:

  • We use Marvis. As for texture? I have no clue, it all feels the same to me thanks to the vibration of the sonicare toothbrush.
