Quake 2 Given The RTX Treatment

Came across this article showing that Quake 2 is getting a facelift to utilise the 'power' of Nvidia RTX (ray tracing).

You'll need a Geforce RTX2060 minimum , and the first 3 levels will be free, but if you're already have Quake II in your Steam Library, you'll get the full game update free!

Not sure if it will be a separate entry in your Steam Library, or replace the old version.. most likely the former.

Coming June 7!

Nvidia: See you can play games with RTX on at high fps!

This is completely ray traced and nothing to do with modern rasterised games that use RTX.

There has been the usual parroting of fools who do not own an RTX card yet insist that it kills frame rates when it doesn't.

For example I run Metro: Exodus 3840x2160 locked 60 everything at Ultra. Everything can be set to High and it would almost look the same so there is considerable head room … on a low end 2080. So no point in not using it and RTX Global Illumination has significant visual improvements on every rendered frame of the game.

I have 2080ti. When I played battlefield 5 on release, FPS was like than half with RTX on. That is where the whole running joke started. Never played metro because epic store.

  • Navi still no RTX right ?

  • Here's the reveal trailer. It's kind of interesting but as for me, I'm happy to leave Quake 2 in the past.

  • Fine, but can the card cope with a timerefresh in quake 1?

  • whats good about this? it looks the same?

  • wasted countless hours of my childhood playing this game.

  • So GTX1070 and GTX1080 won't work?

    • I think they will, with lower level ray tracing effects. There's an article somewhere. Cbf digging it up.

  • Time to burn some demons
