European Summer Last Minute Savings on 5 Star Luxury Hotels. Prices from Only $54/Night @ Travala.com

61

As I have previously posted, Travala is a new startup company pushing itself as the leading Next-gen Online Travel Agency (NOTA). Although only just entering the space, it already has over 567,000 hotels in 210 countries. The website & hotel load is still in Alpha phase, but is already showing some huge savings on selected hotels. They have stated there will be another million properties added soon, so if you are searching and cannot find a specific property, or better deal than the leading websites, that is why!

Note: Although travala.com might not be the cheapest for every single hotel (I am not making that claim), it’s a brand new company where it is cheaper to book through than some of the largest booking sites in the world. **This post is specific to a handful of hotels which show genuine savings.

Pro Tip 1: Change to AUD in top right hand corner before searching.
Pro Tip 2: Search for hotels within the next 2 months of travel for a better chance of savings.

**All dates are for the the next 2-4 weeks, so the deal is aimed at those who are travelling to Europe soon, but haven't yet booked accommodation!

Is that the most complicated loyalty program ever? Wow.

Hold 5000 AVA in your wallet for 10% extra discount on all hotels? What is difficult about that exactly?

  • I tried to compare this website to a few bookings I just made on other websites but this one is just too messy. The only way I found to see if a rate is flexible is to manually click on "cancellation policy" every time, which is very time consuming because they have so many different entries for the same room (e.g. 1 standard twin and right after 1 twin standard) even sometimes at the same price. And at the end, even looking at the most expensive rates, I couldn't find anything flexible for the 3 hotels I checked.

[Edit] I just had a look at 3 of the hotels mentioned by OP to check. I tried Leonardo Munich East and Regent Warsaw, you can find cheaper on hotelscombined on the same dates. I also checked W Opera and it's ~500$ / night on Travala (or other websites), not 500$ for 3 nights.
    No deal

      • Regarding the layout: As I mentioned, Travala is still in alpha, so these types of issues persist. As part of their latest updated news, the Beta site is due for release, which will address such issues (such as what you found in the cancellation policies, room descriptions etc)
      • W Opera: All the cheap rooms sold out already it appears. Thanks for letting me know mate, I have updated the deal
      • Regent Warsaw: Although it appears $2 cheaper on HotelsCombined, those sites that have it at that price don't have the 2% giveback, which makes Travala overall $4 cheaper (or thereabouts)
      • Leonardo Hotel: Correct, appears $20 cheaper on HotelsCombined. Great deal.

Regarding your neg, I believe it's an invalid neg IMO. Just because the deal doesn't match your current needs/dates, doesn't constitute a neg, as it may still suit someone else.

I also didn't claim Travala would be cheaper for everything, as that would be impossible. However there are literally 100's if not 1000's of dates different from the above where Travala are cheaper. Go and search HotelsCombined for MGM Grand, The Westin Hotel & SPA & The Mirage, all in Las Vegas for October 27th - October 30th. You'll see the cheapest result (still more expensive than Travala) has a decent price, but when you click it and go to payment, they add a stack of taxes etc, which ends up making Travala 10-30% cheaper.

I guess I am just one of those people sick of the monopoly of booking.com etc owning 95% of the industry, and trying to price control everything. Travala is literally trying to change this, so that you and I can travel cheaper.

The voting guidelines say, under negative vote "the deal is not the cheapest available". This was the case for all the hotels I checked. Note that most websites, including booking, hotelscombined, etc. give you cashback via cashrewards that is higher than 2% so even if you include cashback Travala isn't cheaper.
If the neg is invalid it'll be removed, that's fine.

I too wish to see more competition between OTAs. I went as far as reading the Travala business plan after seeing your deal, that's how interested I am. So I am truly hoping they end up doing what they promise, and I'll keep checking regularly, when I don't need flexible rates. But today, if they are indeed taking less commission, then I'm not seeing it passed onto customers. None of the hotels I booked recently were cheaper on Travala.
