American Express Card Insurance - Chubb Insurance Have You Claimed Any Thing ?

Hi All ,

Just wondering if anyone claimed anything via Amex Credit card insurance ?

Example such as travel insurance. I just want to know how good they are. I had to cancel the flight and they refused to pay as its not a listed policy.

My fault i did not read the policy ( seriously who reads them ) and i found Credit card travel insurance policy is very limited.

So how did you guys with the Amex insurance claims ? or what Credit cards have you used the insurance successfully ?

Kind regards
Dobo

Be helpful to understand where you went wrong, like why it's not part of the policy

    • Sorry , As I was travelling to a country which had terrorist attacks the policy do not cover for cancelation.

Yep, had a qantas flight out of sydney get cancelled because it was trying to depart after the curfew. While in the line with 170+ others to be put up in accomodation, I called amex. They put me through to chubb who told me to go ahead and book my own accom. They would cover up to 700 of it.

My accom for the night was $750 (treat yoself), and they gave me back 700 within 2 weeks.

Fyi rarely does travel insurance cover cancellations by the traveller unless it is for sickness/death

    • Now I know , thanks

  • Haven't claimed TI but have done 3 claims for the cellphone screen insurance cover. Always approved and paid out within 3 days, very efficient.

    • Which credit card issuance is this ?

      • I have Platinum and Explorer, both come with cellphone screen insurance (covered by Chubb). Only 10% excess which is great

  • I've made a few purchase protection claims through them. On one occasion I dropped a 3 day old tablet and broke the screen. They paid for the repair (-$60 excess). On a separate occasion I damaged a watch I had purchased about 30 days before hand. Again no stress they covered the cost of the watch less the $60 excess. So in my experience they have been outstanding.

Sorry mate but how else are they going to explain inclusions or exclusions without fine print.

  • For the screen insurance, is a SIM only postpaid plan as the monthly bill acceptable? I have purchased the smartphone outright by other means (not using the Amex card).

    • Yes

      • Thank you for the response. Are you speaking from your own experience or your interpretation of the terms?

        • Both. Claimed recently with 3 monthly bills and approved

          • @daft009: That's great to hear! Interesting that the phone does not need to be linked to the bill for them to cover the phone's screen replacement. Thanks again for your feedback.

          • @daft009: Few more questions, if you don't mind - do we have to have the repair done and paid for before making the claim or can we place the claim once we have an invoice from the repairer (e.g. Samsung)? Thanks

            • @shbargain: repair done & paid for (it also needs to be uploaded to the chubb claim form)

              I also repaired my samsung

  • My partner and I travelled to Hayman Island. She tripped and fractured her foot. The whole trip was paid on AMEX Platinum Charged. We claimed travel insurance for loss of income. They paid her 3 months of income circa around $12,000. They do have a max limit of $3,000 a month.

    • Not sure the math works out on that one.

They paid her 3 months of income circa around $12,000. They do have a max limit of $3,000 a month.

12k over 3 months if 4k a month despite there being a 3k month limit?
Unless you are adding in other medical costs/flights and things?

  • Yea, there are other costs in there too. They some how do their little magic in the background and uhhh paid us around 12k. I think they did overpay but I'm not saying anything… My partner did the paperwork, I just watched money in our account.

    • With that kind of payout I am thinking I should use my CC with insurance to book travel. I usually have been using other cashback cards which don't have insurance.
Did she apply for loss income on the paperwork or did she just submit what happened and they worked out the rest?

      • She applied via loss of income.

Edit: I think only AMEX Platinum Charge has loss of income travel insurance attached to their CC. I haven't seen much from other CCs.

        • Yeah I will need to read up on what I have and what I could get. ANZ Travel used to be top notch but they canned that during covid
