  • Hisense 50R6 for $995 at HN or 58R5 for $895 at HN
(quoted HN half year cleareance price as a guide only)
Hisense have a 3 year warranty (LG Sony and Samsung generally 1 year)
Hisense make very good lower to mid range TVs
Should be able to get it lower if you follow ozbargain

Any of the entry level TVs in 50 or 55” should be approximately $1000 with EOFY sales/eBay % off sales. If you can find a Hisense 55P6 or P7 around they’d be the best value.

Alternatively the Philips 50PUT5102/5103 aren’t bad models. Very good image quality for the price ($750ish), smart features are terrible so you’ll definitely need something to connect to it.

Any 50” will only be entry level, going to 55” gives you the opportunity to get one with better image quality.

I've always been happy with Kogan TV's, they do need a soundbar though as inbuilt speakers are poor. Plenty of choices within your specs.

  • Go in to HN and GG etc to see the TV for yourself as this will give you a better understanding.

Many 55" TV's now are under $1K so you have a good selection.

The answers here will be prominently subjective.

For example, the poster above says Kogan is good. I reckon they are crap.

IMO stick to the name brands and ALL now have SMART capabilities so don't discount on that.

    Cheers

  • Aldi have the 4K / 65inch for about 799 not sure on stock levels
    I use it with chromecast

Smart functions are here to stay. In my research, I've seen that if you dont connect them to the internet, you'll get what you want out of the TV without the smart functions.

Heres hoping XDA developers find a way to install custom roms on TVs
