Home Backup Solution for Mac

Hi,
Friend of mine has macbook and desktop.
Recently macbook crashed and he spent lot of effort trying to recover the drive.

What is a simple homebackup solution where data is automatically backed up over the network

Backblaze. Cheap as chips and backs up off-site.

    • I second Backblaze. It's awesome

    • Looks good. But do you know non cloud based option?

      • There are lots.

        Time machine
        Carbon Copy Cloner
        Duplicati

You could even script it yourself using:

        Rsync
        Rclone

I use an Apple time capsule for over my home network backing up.

I also back up my desktop and important files by using iCloud storage of my desktop.

I also do a weekly back up to a portable far drive that is kept in the shed and another one at work. I use Carbon Copy Cloner for that rather than time machine. It allows you to boot from the from portable drives.

I replace the hard drives every three years and rotate which company I buy them from.

    • I like your backup regime a lot.
I use time capsule too (I wish it would backup phones and tablets), plus separate hdd of my data, another stored at work (updated every month or so) and google drive sync of my main docs and pics.

I’m not so fussed about backing up a whole disk image, but don’t want to lose anything I’ve ever produced.

      • I only have Apple products so my tablets and phone are already backed up to iCloud.

I think were my regime falls down is I don’t test the data to see if it has backed up.
My MacBook died last year and it the backs ups did work.
