My only advice; Don't buy a French SUV in Oz.

    • Why?

        2014 Active - $10-$14k
        2018 Active - $26,990-$42,702
        New - 2019 Active - $42k drive away

That resale drop is the reason you don't buy a Peugeot in Australia

Holdens must be the way to go then?

          • @oscargamer: If you can't think of any other brand for sale in the country then sure, go nuts.

              @spackbace: I'm looking at a 2016 308 GTi 270.

As you say, retail very high, but as bang for buck for a used car…….

              • @oscargamer: As long as you're friendly with your local mechanic, or are a mechanic yourself…

I wouldn't touch one outside warranty, and that's why it is a sharp price at the tail end of warranty, or when it's expired. Dealers generally don't wanna touch them

How much do they want for the 2016? And how different in price is that to a Golf R? Bit quicker (0-100 in 5secs) and definitely more desirable later on. Just make sure it's a manual ;)

@spackbace: Looking at around $28k with 40 on the clock, and only comes in manual.

IMO - MUCH MUCH MUCH more interesting than a Golf………

        • 2018 Active(carsales.com.au) - $26,990-$42,702

~36% in just a year. That is some deal.

      • Nowhere near a popular as their Japanese counterparts here, hence the lower resale value.
Low sales volume, lower parts availability, higher servicing costs.

Having said that I owned a Renault Megane III RS 265 Trophy+ in 2013 (purchased for an unbelievably good price, 3200KM's on the clock at the time) and loved it. Bought it because there wasn't much else around like it, and I thoroughly enjoyed owning it.

  • Peugeot offer outstanding value for money on the used market, and forget all the naysayers that rubbish them claiming poor reliability or high servicing costs etc. The newer ones from around 2014 onwards are great cars. I wouldn't buy one new, but used at the right price absolutely. 3008 GT is an awesome car, but i'd wait a year or two if I were you, let someone else take the depreciation hit :)

    • from around 2014

These are only ~5 years old. Give them a few more days to mature.

  • Any reason why Spackbase got negged? Peugeot have been renowned to be a horrible car. Not even sure why someone would even create a topic.

Spackbase .. I thought what you added was great. +1 from me.

Any reason why Spackbase got negged?

Because butt hurt Peugeot fanbois… They don’t like home truths…

As a mechanic, all I can say is that the French really do not know how to make cars. They are terrible, soulless, piss poor quality, no resale value shit boxes. Parts are made of pure platinum and gold and they tend to spend more time in the workshop that you would think the local mechanic owned it or it should be paying rent.

Maybe with the absorption of Nissan, they will pick up their game. But if your favourite pastimes are burning money or flushing it down the toilet, buy a French car.

    Peugeot
    Resale, like a rock
    Being dropped off a cliff
    Peugeot

  • Got a 40ft barge pole you can borrow…

Stick with Japanese or Korean, lot on the market for that budget.
