Goodbye Kmart Tyre & Auto Service, and Hello Mycar!

Hi All, I received an email this morning (from Kmart Auto) stating that Kmart Tyre & Auto Service is going to be transitioning to Mycar!. It looks like this segment has been brought out by another foreign company. I was happy with Kmart's car service all these days. Now with this news, does this mean that it is time to shop around for another reliable group for car repairs / service or should we wait and see if they would provide with same level of service. Mods / Admin please remove this post if the news is too old or irrelevant. Thanks.

The whole operation is only as good as the mechanic you get on the day. The rest is a matter of price.

I couldn't care less who owns the chain nor what they're called.

It's now own by German and they're called Continental AG.

Presentation of a gold coin to Kmart Tyres now allows access to otherwise hidden services.

I noticed they stopped selling Bridgstones

I get my Tyres from KMart T & A. They price match and beat, free rotation, change of mind guarantee, road hazard warranty etc.

Guess they’ll also be dropping FlyBuy earn/use.

Although I don’t use them for servicing/tyres I did recently use them for a RWC (VIC) and was able to use FlyBuy dollars towards the bill!

May explain the constant Flybuys offers I'd been sent.

My experience was mixed. Last time I had a tyre puncture from a nail, I brought it to Kmart Tyres to get it fixed. In addition to fixing the puncture, they charged me for off wheel tyre balancing. I questioned the charge for wheel balancing and they said it’s routine. Just wondering whether is this normal?

I’m not sure what off wheel balancing is so I can’t say that it’s normal or not. But I’m very curious about what it is.

      • +1

        It's basically wheel balancing.

When wheel balancing is done with the wheel still on the car it's on-wheel-balancing. If the wheel is take off the car and balanced on a machine, it's off-wheel-balancing.

I’ve never heard it called on-wheel or off-wheel balancing. To me, that implies that the tyre is taken off the wheel. And what would be the point of that?

As far as I know, what you have described is on-car or off-car balancing. The wheel is balanced with the tyre, or the wheel and tyre are balanced together with the hub and everything else on the axle. But maybe the terminology has changed over time and I haven’t been keeping up!

          Cheers.

@Kandrew: Do a google on on wheel balancing. It’s just different terminology.

I mainly used them for the flybuys bonus, plus they were cheaper than a dealer.

If they drop the flybuys points I'll need to shop around.
