Kogan False Advertising on Monitor and Bad Service (Help Me)

I recently purchased an Lg25um58-p monitor from Kogan.

The reason I purchased it was so I could use the picture by picture function with 2 computers (1 for streaming).
The Kogan advertisement clearly stated that it could display 2 devices on one screen.

https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/lg-25-219-2560x1080-full-hd-ult…

Upon receiving it, turns out it doesn't have that feature. LG have confirmed this for me via phone.

Kogan only has email support. They can't seem to comprehend the issue or send a decent or dignified reply.
I've made it simple for them, but am getting frustrated with awkward reply after reply

Why are Kogan so confused
The reason why is that this monitor has 2 awkwardly named features that make it seem like this monitor offers picture by picture.

The monitor has a (software feature) called screen split 2.0.
This feature screen splits the desktop. It does not offer picture by picture.

Also, the monitor also comes with software called "dual controller".
On higher end models, this software enables picture by picture, but the 25um58 is not compatible with it. When operated on this model it only supports keyboard and mouse sharing.

So Kogan see. Oh it has screen split and dual controller the customer must be wrong! It supports two monitors….

Should I just use PayPal protection and launch a dispute? Or wait for Kogan? I just wish I could speak on the phone to someone! Any Kogan reps here?

Tldr: Kogan advertised that the lg25um58-p could display 2 devices on one screen. It couldn't. They are communicating poorly and I just want a quick refund.

EDIT: yes the monitor specs pages says it has screen split 2.0 , yes it says it has dual link up. However LG have confirmed via phone that neither of these features enables twp devices on the screen at once on the LG 25um58.
They only screen split one computer, or share keyboard and mouse between 2. :-)

"Its efficient Dual Link-Up, the monitor lets you also display two devices on the same screen"

So it does have dual link-up that lets you connect 2 devices like here? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzgTde1-Ivc

  • So the device has dual link up that supports keyboard and mouse sharing between 2 computers, but not picture by picture. You have to go to the 29wk500 for that.

    So it's very misleading

But I don't see anywhere on the Kogan link saying it does have PIP.

It seems like you are you one who got confused because of LG's names for those features.

      • The Kogan link clearly states

"Its efficient Dual Link-Up, the monitor lets you also display two devices on the same screen. "

So wasn't me who got confused. Kogan must have got confused writing their description

        • +1

I've linked LG demonstrating what dual-link is, if it can do that, then I don't think Kogan was misleading.

          • @Aliastar: Hey mate,
So I've seen your video and watched it many times trying to set it up. Basically, you follow all the steps in the video on the 25um58p. You connect them both. Then it says- picture by picture is only available in selected models, not this one. With dual link up on this model you can share the keyboard and mouse between the computers.

So the whole naming system and the videos really misleads you to think that every Lag dual controller of can do this. It hurts Kogan too, because they thought you could do this and clearly posted that you can use two devices on one display in their as description.

    • I'm glad I bought 29wk500.

      • Yeah it has the function, mine doesn't :-(

  • No mention of PIP. Lots of propriety naming tricks intended to make the uninformed think they're getting something they don't even know how to use.

You are the awkward victim - the one that actually wants to utilize the function but fell for the naming tricks.

    • Kogan fell for the naming tricks. They wrote on their website "with dual link up, you can display 2 devices at once on the same monitor".

So they have made this mistake on their page and I've purchased it because it explicitly stated that.

    Spec's list:

    Screen Split 2.0 (PIP Mode)
    Dual Link-up / Dual Controller

At any rate 2x 1280x1080 resolution screen's would be painful to use.

    • As I stated before…?
Screen split 2.0 is a software function that only splits the screen of one computer. It does not display 2 devices at once as clearly advertised on Kogans page.

The monitor supports dual controller/ dual link up software from LG
However, when dual link up is enabled on this LG monitor, all it does is share keyboard and mouse, it doesn't do picture by picture video like it does on other models

      • If they have told you this model (ask/get LG to send you this in an email) doesn't have the feature the you've got some options:

        Option 1:
Write to Kogan letting them know that the spec's as advertised by LG are unclear at beast, and incorrect/deceptive at worst. Ask whether you can return/exchange it with the model that does what you want. This is most likely a futile exercise but better to have done it.

        Option 2:
Contact via phone and ask whether you can return the screen as it doesn't do what is advertised, or that the advertising mislead you in to purchasing the wrong model. They have the power to permit a return of a product if they want via a retailer, but its not something they'll do easily.

        Option 3:
Never returned anything using PayPal, but if you get nowhere with the first two options, then look to use the info obtained from either (LG -re monitor not having the feature described), to force a return.

        Option 4:
Keep monitor for use and buy a 2nd screen at a later date.

        Option 5:
Sell the monitor at perhaps a loss and move on, vowing never to buy another LG product.

        • Working through them sir,! Pity Kogan has no phone number hey.

  • The LG site says this model can support split screen and up to 4 screens. They have a video on their site and clearly tell you you need to first download the software from their US site on all devices that will be connected to the screen. Have you followed LG's procedure to get the split screen running?

Here is the spec sheet saying your unit supports 4 screen (which can also do 2 screen): https://www.lg.com/us/support/products/documents/25UM58_Spec…

Here is a quick link to a LG video on how to do it: https://www.lg.com/ca_en/support/video-tutorials/CT20098005-…

    Good luck!

    • So melcheapo. The model can support split screen of up to four screens. But not from two computers, it can only divide one computer into four. It cannot display two devices at once as clearly stated in the Kogan advertisement.

I've gone through every instruction ever. I've called LG and they have said it cannot display 2 devices at once. It's driving me insane
