Prepaid Phone Plans in an iPad?

I recently got a cellular iPad and am interested in putting a prepaid SIM in it. Obviously I want to get the biggest bang for my buck. I understand that the iPad would be intended for Mobile Broadband type plans. However I am wanting to put a phone plan on my iPad sim.

Prepaid starter packs often have first months sign up bonuses and can often be picked up on sale below their face value at supermarkets. With a phone type plan you can port your number to new providers cancelling your relationship with your previous phone provider, so you only have one prepaid account as you move around. Then each month you can repeat the porting process and get the new sign up bonuses all over again.

I have been doing this with my main phone for quite some time. I do not believe that mobile broadband accounts can be ported over to other providers the way phone accounts can. Hence wishing to use a phone plan for my iPad.

I am just concerned if there maybe some sort of roadblocks when using a phone plan in an iPad. Has anyone had any experience with this in the past? Am I correct in thinking that mobile broadband accounts can not be ported to a new provider?

  • No problem to use phone plan in iPad.

Also, I've been able to port Telstra Mobile Broadband services to Kogan services. Tried a few times, but never been able to port out a VF Mobile Broadband service.

  • VF being Vodafone?

With the $40 Vodafone Starter Pack and $20 Netflix card deal. Have stocked up on those, So I was going to use them for my first month.

    • Yes, Vodafone Prepaid Mobile Broadband
