sounds like you lied on your CV and want to know if you'll get away with it

    • Technically Yes, I have stuffed up the dates on a job i had 4 years ago ..I was employed for 2 weeks but on my resume its 3 months. ( Hated the job and i resigned )

Since then i have had 6 jobs and they dates are genuine in my resume .

Now wondering if they contact employers and check / verify the dates as per my resume.

      • doubt they will bother. as long as it's not on linkedin or something publicly available technically it's illegal to disclose to a third party without permission.

        • I have signed a generic consent to complete background checks so i believe they have the authority to contact employers using my consent ?

          • @niish150887: probably then, but i doubt they're going to call every single one to verify the exact duration of employment.

            then again, depends i guess.

then again, what's the worst that could happen? nothing.

          • @niish150887: if they bust you, just say SORRY IT WAS A TYPO

          • @niish150887: how did you go with the checks? did u got the job? was there any issue?

          • @niish150887: Hi were you able to secure a job? How did the background check go?

    • It's only lying (or in the extreme case, commiting fraud) if it was intentional.

  • I can't speak for the outfit you are using, but I can say in general terms that these outfits do make contact with past employers. Whether they do or don't contact the specific employer you are concerned about is a function of far too many variables to set out here, but there is every possibility.

Note then that the hiring manager gets the report back on what you've said vs. what the outfit has found out from their enquiries. It will show up where there are mismatches. It's then up to the hiring manager and their company policies as to what they do next.

Source - I've seen the reports these outfits generate.

  • I've actually had them call one of my previous employers so verify that I worked there, that was 4 years ago at that point and obviously change of managers etc so they just asked me to provide a payslip

    • Do they call head office or your actual place of work, do you know? thanks
I have the same issue - change of managers

      • Called the actual place of work

  • Hi @niish150887 how did you go with that? Were you able secure a job? Please reply
