Went to instgall my copy of Office Mac 2011 on my new macbook pro and its having a hard time trying to activate.
Seeing as I only use word and Excel maybe twice a year, I've never needed any additional features
The Quick solution would be to upgrade to Office 2019 but at $200 for software I don't really use Its a bit of a stretch
Has anyone been able to get a Software key through a cheaper method?

If you only use word or excel twice a year, my guess is you dont do complex docs.
Pages for Mac for WP and Numbers for spreadsheets can do most of what you want. (these are Free from the App store)
Try opening your existing documents in these two to see if they do what you want. Both Apps will import word and excel docs.
That way you know they work or not.
Teachers who work for the NSW Dept of Ed can get a unique 2019 Office for Mac key for $29.99 under the ‘Work at Home’ program. Not as cheap as pirating, but handy if you happen to have a relo/friend in the job!
Teachers should be able to download Office for free since the A1 license pack is free.
Find someone with a .edu email if you want to get office 2019 for free.
Did you call Microsoft?
No joke their call centres are pretty good.
100% agreed. They limit the activations to some number (6 maybe?), but if you call, they will reset the counter.

Try the home use program if you work for a large company (Ozbargain still have a link to a non-subscription licence) or use Google sheets. I was using excel a lot but now if I am not using things like VLOOKUP or scripts I just use Google sheets for free. 😎

simply chasing Office Home & Student 2019 mac version..
Ive found a few cd key options online (dont mind paying a fair price) but most of the sellers dont look that reliable
Ending up going the outlook route and seems like i've had some some luck

The only way is to use time machine with an old image, otherwise call Micro$oft and ask why they discontinued activation. There is no chance to activate, I have tried. Shame.
