Haven't Had a Phone Plan for 7+ Years. What Is Good Value?

I have solely relied on a company phone for almost eight years now, but am looking to change job and I'll finally need my own.
Problem is that I have no idea of a gauge for what is a good deal and what isn't???
Although I wouldn't mind a new handset, I am able to use my partners old iPhone 5C - but will defs need a SIM/plan.

If I look in my iPhone Settings> Mobile> Mobile Data, I see 'Current Period' reads 179GB… But I'm not sure what 'period' that refers to, because it's also including 5.1GB roaming data OS, yet I was last OS over 5.5 weeks ago; so that's not right for monthly usage is it?
Also it lists 'System Services' at 70.9GB.

So is that accurate am I looking at a 100GB/Unlimited data plan? If so, where is the bar for good value?

Also, we currently have a Telstra Medium Broadband Bundle (home phone which is not connected and unlimited cable now getting 110Mbps which I really don't want to mess with, for $95/month), which is ages out of contract term but don't want a new contract period only to save only EG $10/month.

      Not 4 - 5 words, but it is in dot point form.I hope I didn't miss anything/misunderstood something…

      Partial Data Usage Breakdown:
      • System Services = 70.9 GB
      • Overseas Data usage = 5.1GB

      Home internet Plan:
      • Telstra Medium Broadband Bundle
(Possible to save $10/month if recontract, but don't want to)

Current period is since you manually reset or switched phones last.
Scroll to the very bottom of that page to see the last reset date.

  • 179GB is 235 hours of 1080p youtube.

plan is not good and will never be good. ever and forever.

plans = always end up paying more. probably "right now" you find something that looks cheap and comparable to the non-contract. key word "right now".
but how about in the next 6 months? 1 year? you stuck with the plan for 2 years, but other people can jump to the better deal anytime.

please. do not go into plans. plans are for people who cant afford a phone outright but want to use $1500 iphone.

    • You know not all plans come with a phone right?

      • +1

The point still stands that you don't want to be locked in for 1-2 years unless you're getting an amazing deal

  • depending if you needed phone and a plan anyway, some of them can be pretty good deals compared to just buying a phone outright, depending on the offer.

  • I recently got the $40 80gb optus plan.

Don’t be lazy, do your own google search, and make the decision yourself, it’s not hard at all !

Know your usage first. Reset your data counters and measure

  • Get a cheap $15 for 90 days on Kogan or Catch Connect sim and see what your usage is like.
