Gas Oven/Stove Small Attached Steel Splashback Sloping down Instead of up?

Hey all,

Smegg gas stove and oven has been installed by the main group doing a reno. See pic https://imgur.com/07d6eEx

When we had another guy come through he pointed out that the stove part of the oven splashback is on backwards - i.e slanting down, instead of up.

Is it a cosmetic issue or could it actually damage/not dispense heat from the gas flames correctly?

Thoughts?

  • What does the manual say?

    • Waiting on my mum to get me the invoice, not sure of the model/manual because apparently tradies threw out everything (not happy about that).

  • looks cosmetic

Great dirt trap. Will be more than cosmetic in time.

      • More than cosmetic? Like extremely unsightly haha?

      • Will be dirt trap the other way round too.

It’s installed wrong, but is just a filler piece to stop things dropping down the back.

  • If you can spot some obvious sloppy work, chances are there's a lot more of the same sloppiness elsewhere.

    It's installed back to front.

    • Why back to front?

The other way isn't attractive either

      Why not have horizontal piece?

      • The idea is for the oil and crap to pool to a certain direction.

Overall, it's not a great design but that's a different matter entirely.

        • The other way would pool against side of stove?

          vs splash back?

    Wrongly installed.

Get them back to fix it.

  • Thanks for the answers guys!

What would be a rough estimate to fix that? Perhaps 30 min work? Take the whole oven out? Would it damage the now installed tile splashback behind?

My mum is happy to live with cosmetic, but I've told her not to pay the final bill until I did a bit of research.

    • Who cares on cost. Get them back to fix it.

      • Yeah it's more a failsafe if they don't end up doing it/don't think it should be fixed then i can take the fair amount deducted from final bill.

        • Fair comment.

I would suggest that once they refuse to fix it (in writing), you tell them (in writing) that you are getting a handyman in to fix it and you will withhold from them, the amount the handyman charges.

Give them say 10 business days to return and fix it themselves (and time to absorb this info) and I would bet they will be back to sort it out….

I think that piece should be installed vertically not horizontally, see p.31 in the instructions: https://www.smeg.com.au/smeg_au/docs/user_manuals/FS61XNG8.p…

It should look like this (p.2): https://www.smeg.com.au/smeg_com/docs/common_pdf/FS61XNG8.pd…

  • Lol that is bad. Should defiantly be installed vertically. I’ve installed many of them and I’ve never seen anything like that before.

Installation fault, get the installer back.
