Decent range wireless keyboard / mouse

Can anyone recommend a wireless keyboard and mouse that has a decent wireless range? And by that I mean actually works at a decent range, not just says that it will work at a decent range. Looking for at least 5m but preferably 7m just for a bit of margin.

Have tried a Logitech wireless keyboard / mouse combo (can't find a model number as not listed on either keyboard or mouse) and a stand alone logitech mouse (also no model number I must be going blind) and both just stop after about 1 - 1.5m from receiver. Both are about 3yrs old.

For use with essentially a WinXP media style PC primarily.

Will be in a high wireless noise environment if that makes a difference (cordless phones, WiFi g and WiFi n networks, etc).

Prefer around $50 but definately less than $100.

I use the Lenovo remote(mouse/kb) for my HTPC which I bought from dealextreme, http://www.dealextreme.com/p/lenovo-2-4ghz-portable-handheld….

    • Excellent remote.
    • Range is quite long (have tested it up to 5m but should be fine for over 7m) and doesn't need line of site.
    • Battery life is good. Still on the first batteries from a few months ago.
    • Similar size to a tv remote
    • Has video buttons on the top (play, ff, etc).
    • Cheap
    • That thing is cool :)

I use a Rii, available from numerous places (including DX). Nowhere NEAR as ugly and ungainly as the Lenovo, and uses a trackpad rather than a trackball. Keys are small, so it may be a bit fiddly for some

Rechargeable internal Lithium battery. Ours seems to last months without recharging. Backlit keyboard (selectable) too.

Note - there are 2 versions… a 2.4GHz one with a small USB stick receiver, and a Bluetooth version. I have the 2.4GHz one, we use it as a keyboard on the Wii. The Wii handles our Net Browsing, etc (we use a dedicated Media Player rather than a HTPC)

Note the Multimedia buttons (blue text) on the Rii are used via a Fn key, but there's not a full compliment on there. So watch out that the keys you want are physically present on the controller you buy.

  • Thanks neil and llama, going to give the Lenovo a go. Do like the idea of the Rii being backlit but it had a few reviews giving negatives for the range and its the range that has been killing me at the moment.

    Thanks again for the pointers!
