Anyone Got a Review Amazon Prime Content?

Amazon is putting a big push behind its Prime service, and it looks like good value at $59 a year.
I am not especially fussed about expedited delivery, we don't buy much from Amazon. But there is Reading, which my wife would like, and Music, as well extra Cloud storage for a bunch of devices.
We already have Netflix, and we are wondering whether Prime Video has enough decent content to make it worthwhile. Can anyone shine some light on the content?

  • You can try it free for a month right?

Yep and that's the best way to answer the question as people like different things. I have it and have more than got my money's worth from it just in deliveries, the other content is a real bonus. I don't watch as much as Netflix but they do have some movies I've watched and a few series I may watch some day plus they're getting The Expanse which I'd probably keep it for that alone.

I got prime for 'free' shipping on Amazon AU, not really for their video content. That content is more of a bonus to me than anything else.

    • I'm on the same boat that's just for "free" shipping.

  • I got prime, pretty good,

  • I have it for the 'free' shipping too (and The Grand Tour), the Prime Video content generally is pretty dated or poorly reviewed movies tbh, their TV offerings are a bit better. Try a free trial.

  • Wait I don't understand prime, does having a single prime membership give you access to TV, free delivery, reading and prime music?

    • +1

      Affirmative.

  • I don't know if this'll work, this is a link to the Prime Reading catalogue: https://www.amazon.com.au/s?rh=n%3A5594520051&pageType=kindl…

I'm a big reader, and I have been a bit disappointed with the selection, which doesn't change much, and is quite often a random book from a series, which I don't like at all. I don't mind trying the first book in a series, but not book ten!

Let your wife have a look through the books to see what she thinks.

As to the rest, videos and music, I've watched some video not available from Netflix, not into music much at all.

Overall, I will be renewing when my year is up, mainly for the delivery; the rest is a bonus.

  • Prime video has a bunch of classic movies (Indianna Jones ftw) that make it worth it. It's half the cost of netflix.

  • *Not a review about the content - but the app itself.

Amazon App on Android Phone does not allow you to cast the content on TV (using Google chromecast).

Not sure about their app on Iphones though.

I think you will need a Smart TV which can have the Prime Video app loaded for it to work.

    • Works on my telstra tv2 box

  • i got amazon prime for "the grand tour" then unsubed. and in 2021 i will be getting prime again for the lord of the rings tv show…
    they dont have much.
netflix, stan and all the tv channel streaming services is enough.

  • Prime Video has The Office on it, seems to be all I watch. But free shipping is very good.

  • There's a show called American Gods that I started watching on there, extremely strange but quite interesting and ended up liking it, the grand tour is great to watch too. Wouldn't get it for the TV though I mainly have it for Amazon Shopping, Stan is much better.

  • I like the variety of Australian tv shows and movies I used to watch as a kid. Also the grand tour is pretty awesome.

  • Amazon Prime membership is extremely good value for money IMHO.

    • The free deliveries itself makes it worthwhile
    • The savings I had from last year's Prime day sales itself covered the cost of membership for me multiple times over
    • Free reading content is ok. Not great but not bad either
    • Prime music is also Ok
    • The Prime video catalogue isnt the best but there are some series which I quite like in there. Eg: The Marvelous Mrs.Maisel, The Expanse (My current Fav show), House, Good Omens, Startup, The Office, American Gods, Seinfeld, The Terror, etc. I only wish they could remove the really crappy B-grade content they have on there, or atleast give us an option not to see those.
    • A big one is… There are no restrictions on the number of devices that can use an account to watch Prime Video! I use my account on 4 devices myself. I think there can only be two simultaneous streams allowed though.
    • I don't Use Twitch, but for people who do I guess its even more value for money
    • Is it just me or Seinfeld got removed from Amazon Video in Australia (I googled and it seems the same happened quite some time ago in US Amazon Prime Video catalogue)? I watched it in June, had no time in July, and can't find anything about Seinfeld now. TF?

  • Thanks for the comments all, the pluses look like worth having.

  • Worth it if you buy more than a couple of things from Amazon a month. Some good shows on their if you haven't watched them yet (American Gods, man in the high castle, grand tour, the expanse).

Worth trying it out for a free month or even a month here and there to be honest.
