Ring Video Doorbell 2 Inside Screen

I have bought a Ring Video Doorbell 2 and am thinking of putting a screen attached to an inside wall or similar and was wondering if a cheap tablet can be used for this and what would be suitable.

Any suggestions?

  • any old wifi tablet or phone? that you no longer need/use is what I would have a go with.

  • Ring support both Android and ios, so it works with any.

  • I'm doing this with an old Samsung Galaxy TabS that was lying around unused. Put it on a stand on the kitchen bench and plugged into power. I've tried to automate things with Tasker so when a Ring doorbell press notification is received, it's automatically selected which opens the Ring app and displays the video feed. After a 60sec timeout the app is closed. This required a 3rd party Tasker plugin (NotificationListener I think it was). However, it doesn't seem to work reliably and I haven't bothered to troubleshoot much. Also be aware that (if it worked) every doorbell press would show up in the Ring history as "answered".

    • I think you are try to automate it too much, its a bell concept, on demand (ring, click and view) or else get a Web Camera.
Having said that, I got all the automation setup in ipad on the wall, but hardly use it. You are much closer to your phone these days.

      • The point is that if someone rings the bell I can look over at the tablet from the kitchen table or couch and see who's at the door. I don't have to walk over to the tablet, hit the notification, and wait a few seconds for the app to open and connect to the camera. Why not automate those mundane steps?
