Best Data Sim for USA + Canada

Hi All

I'm travelling around USA and Canada for 6 weeks. The trip will be USA, Canada back to USA.

I am looking for the best Sim's available. Currently leaning towards getting a https://www.simcorner.com/basic-usa-canada-mexico-sim-card1.… and then getting it recharged with T-mobile while I am there.

Anyone who has travelled to these countries got any advise or cheaper options?

Regards!

  • I used Lebara in the USA which used the T mobile network. I purchased a $50 starter pack off ebay and activated it on arrival. A similar offer from T mobile was much more expensive. Its like using Boost mobile vs Telstra.

The $50 sim gave unlimted 4g data and calls back to AU as well. T mobile network was slow but good enough for backing up photos, google maps etc.

    Definitely T-Mobile from my experience..

I’m glad that you’re aware that you cannot turn up to the post office or the service station or something like that as you would here in Australia, and buy a prepaid SIM card. I was caught out with that on my first trip there, and I’m still amazed that you can’t do that..

I’m interested to see that the company you have linked to is delivering your SIM to you in Australia before you travel. When my wife went to the U.S. last year to visit her family, she was unable to get a SIM delivered here. Everyone said that they delivered only to the U.S.. That meant that she had no phone coverage when she landed.

    • My dad used it, and it definitely works. My biggest issue is the fact that I am travelling for over 1 month, so trying to minimise my costs here.

  • When i was there last year for 2 weeks I went to walmart and bought a sim .

    • Fair enough.

But if you want to have phone service and data (to a lesser degree, because there’s wifi in so many places), you need to get a SIM card set up and ready for activation when you land.

I don’t know what their problem is with buying a SIM card at the airport

  • Any info on Canada SIM specifically?

  • I went with AT&T. You can use their Sim in Canada without having to pay roaming charges.

    • This is from Canadian ‘ozbargain’
      https://forums.redflagdeals.com/walmart-us-t-25gb-unlimited-…

      And if u buy Canadian
This is recent example… and hence why people say but in USA or outside Canada

Get 15GB of Data for $75.00/Month from TELUS!
Get some extra data with a new smartphone plan from TELUS, because their Summer Splash Sale is on now and you can get 10GB of data plus a bonus 5GB for $75.00 per month!

No contract is required for this BYOD plan, which includes unlimited nationwide calling, text and picture messaging, along with etc etc

That $75 Canadian is $82 Aus!!!

I use Flexiroam for all my travels and Buy data in advance.

7GB for 24 days is about US$16 if you buy 90 days in advance (70% 0ff).
5GB for Canada is about US$24 if you buy 90 days in advance (70% 0ff)
