PLANET

Your favourite uncle, Mr Daniel Murphy, offers you this precious gift in his latest catalogue.

A delicious single malt highland scotch, aged 14 years rather than the normal 12.

Only slightly more than its lowest price ever.

Normally $125. Currently:
$92 at First Choice
$101 at Vintage Cellars
$115 at David Jones
$128 at BWS

Ask for a price match if you can't visit your dear old uncle Dan.
(Note that most stores won't match eBay offers, but it's on the shelf for $89.90 which is still a bargain.)

Update: thanks to 8anddrank for pointing out that the 5% off eBay code makes it cheaper than in-store.

aged 14 years rather than the normal 12.

If you grab one from the back of the shelf, it's likely to be a year or two older…

Unlike wine, whisky does not mature in the bottle. So even if you keep a 12 year old bottle for 100 years, it will always remain a 12 year old whisky. As long as the bottle is kept out of direct sunlight, the Scotch Whisky will neither improve nor deteriorate, even if it is opened.

It will deteriorate due to oxidation when you open it though, but at a much slower pace. Just depends on how much air there is in the bottle.

        I said aged, not matured.

@z28: Yeh I thought that one was a pretty clear joke for all to get.

  • You don't even needs a Dan's membership for this one. I've never tried their 14yo but I'm guessing it'll be very nice.

  • Damn, I'm not allowed to buy more whisky until I get a proper cabinet to store it all. Can someone get me 50% off at Ikea?!

    • Yep it's called gumtree.

      • Or Facebook marketplace.

They’re in a round cardboard tube with an intricate line drawing. Very nice.

  • A great whisky… I was lucky enough to go to the distillery when the ferries were cancelled and missed my trip to Iona and Mull (unfortunately).
I managed to buy it just now with the eBay code PLUSWKND which brought it down to $76.41
