external SSD for Mac mini 2018 - USB C 3.1 or Thunderbolt 3

Hey,
So I'm after some advice.
I've only got 256gb drive in my on order 2018 Mac mini and will need more space.
The question is do I need it super speedy or not.

What will I be doing?
Definitely FCPX and Logic Pro projects once a week but Plex PMS and EyeTV the rest of the time.
I'm wondering about moving my home folder to this external drive.
So will 450mb/s Sammmy T5 be fast enough or should I be looking at a Thunderbolt 3 X5 etc

Keep your home on the internal SSD. Keep Plex on the internal too - moving it to external can be a pain, and realistically it isn't going to be that big (mine is about 5gb with ~5TB of content).

Get an internal SSD (480gb) and a USB 3 2.5" enclosure. Use that for your Logic projects etc.

I’m using a T5 with a MacBook Pro for final cut and i don’t notice the difference from running from the internal drive. Definitely fast enough for the average user.

Moving home folder is definitely not a good idea.
