Not happy with Scoopon

I have a voucher with Vibe Hotel. I just called the hotel for a booking, but they told me I cannot book on Saturday and long weekend. You know, I am based on Canberra, and bough this voucher for my holiday. Your term and condition never motion the hotel does not provide Saturday/long weekend booking. So I asked a refund for my voucher but Scoopon rejected.

And this was their reply:
Thank you for your email.

Unfortunately we are unable to assist with your request for refund.

At the time of your purchase, you have accepted the terms and conditions listed on our website. In line with these standard terms and conditions (please see link below) we are unable to provide a refund of your purchase due to reasons of; accidental purchase, a change of mind, inability to use your Scoopon before the expiry date or as the full terms and conditions of the Scoopon offer have not been read properly.

However, all Scoopons are transferable unless stated otherwise. A friend or family member can redeem your Scoopons even if your name appears on the printout.

Just check 'The Fine Print' & 'Highlights' on the deal page for any offer you are interested in to see if any restriction on this function applies.

    • If the scoopon page you bought from doesn't include the thing about Sat nights and long w/e's, you should file a complaint.

  • If this was the deal you bought then you definitely have a case:
    http://www.scoopon.com.au/deals/854/one-night-at-vibe-hotel-…

It doesn't mention a blackout period in June and no restrictions on weekends/public holidays. The only way they can refuse you is through the 'subject to availability' clause (ie: if they are completely booked out on the day you want).

I suggest you get confirmation in writing that there is availability on the day you want, then go back to Scoopon and get them to sort it out with Vibe.

    • yes, this is my deal. I think Scoopon dont refund for your voucher with any reason or process slowly before your voucher is expired. If your voucher is expired, Scoopon can reject to refund against their term and conditions.

  • can i put a positive against your name?

  • Definitely have a case, thou if they claim they have no rooms then u have no case. It is after all less than 2 weeks till the long weekend, so u had ample of time to book.

I bought a hotel from sccoopon in Perth, and booked on the 1st hr I could book and it was 3 months advanced, so I knew I would not get knocked back, if u buy group buuy vouchers u have to be organized and plan well in advanced or else u run th risk if being burnt

    • How much was the hotel

    • Was that the Vines?

  • Thanks for the warning. Have been on the lookout for accomodation deals, but will definitely avoid now, especially Scoopon. Thought I'm safe as long as I read the T&C thoroughly and buy deals which I don't need to be 'served' (eg: restaurant/massages) but apparently not!

  • should write to them for a booking on the day u want and not mention the voucher. If they come back with availablity then u should get a refund even if the voucher expires, since it take scoopon for ever to take back to anyone!

    Just checked availability, http://www.vibehotels.com.au/

They are booked out for this Sat and Sunday night. I certainly don't think Scoopon are saints but assuming it's the voucher that expires in 2 weeks and you just tried to book today, it's a bit naive to think you will be able to use the voucher for the weekend.

    • No, I didnt book this Saturday and Sunday. I also asked to book other Saturdays in June. The hotel said I cannot.

      • If the hotel does not let anyone book on Saturday and long weekend within the final month, scoopon should mention this.

        • If they don't have availability for anyone, then it's not really their fault. I've always booked accommodation months in advance especially for long weekends. You said you tried booking over the long weekend which would be this weekend. What day did you try for?

          Looking at vibehotels website,
there appears to be 1 kind of room (2 night stay only though) available for the 18th but plenty of options for the 25th. So they said they had no availability at all for the 25th? Did you point out that there was plenty of availability on their website?

Sorry, I am not clearly. Vibe said they dont make any book on Sat and long weekend for vouchers

I will write an email to book, see what is going on

  • I had a different experience tonight. Not scoopon but another site. Bought 5 course tapas menu… only available mon - wed.

Didn't say anything about its the chefs choice in the T&Cs… but I agreed when they said so anyways.

Anyways… the deal was for four people but one of my friends couldn't make it. So we said just bring food for 4 we will share. Noticed they were still bringing one plate for three of us. When I asked they said that cos it's three people they will smaller sizes but add more courses. At the end of the night it was still 5 courses, so we got stiffed cos one person wasn't there but still paid the whole amount. Kind of pissed off but didn't know what to say. gah..

I guess no more restaurant deals for me… people seem to have bad experience with being treated like crap even though we are doing them a favour by giving them more business and a alot of cashflow. Only Indya Bistro was good despite voucher…only very slow service.

I bought vouchers from Jumponit, spreet, scoopon and ouffer. I really like Jumponit's customer service with my experience.

I bought $78 restaurant vouchers on July 2010 and they are expired on January 2011. I asked a refund because of they are expired. Jumponit refunded immediately. This is a very happy experience.

    • you know what, I didnt ask refund to my credit card, I let jumpoint keep them as credits in my account. Jumponit didnot lost me, and did keep money in their pocket. BUT I AM STILL HAPPY.

    • If only Scoopon provided this service BEFORE people had to post here.

I just got an email from Scoopon

    Thank you for your email.

We have touched base with the Deal Provider and we can confirm that they are fully booked on weekends for the remainder of the validity period.

They do however have week day appointments available. With this in mind we are unable to assist you with your request for a refund.

With these kinds of deals we recommend booking in weekends as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

We kindly refer you to the Deal Provider in order to redeem your Scoopon.
Should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to respond to this email.

    Kind Regards,
    Team Scoopon

I dont think you talked to Vibe. I checked the Vibe website, and kept the screen as an evidence. They have so many vacated room on 25/06. The Vibe told me they dont accept booking on Sat and long weekend.

    • It may be that Vibe have set 1 type of room/package for the Scoopon deal. Sort of how with airline tickets there are a number of different ticket categories. This may be programmed in their reservation system so it's best to talk to the manager (who can override reservation restrictions) and tell them that their website shows that there are free rooms.

Its a real shame Ozbargain is a repository for Group buy deals complaints etc, its sad they have so many issues, even sadder i have to read about them…… i guess i am forwarned

You don't have to read about them. Surely the title of this thread would have given you some indication of the content.

  • i think its best for anyone wanting to buy a deal, read the website deal, then call up the service provide and ask them whole bunch of questions before you buy it.
Either way they havent disclosed all the t&c to you before you bought the deal, now they are shafting you and Scoopon is as well, wich legally they are required to refund you, and are using any excuse not to, becasue they know you wont go further with the compliant against them, most people just take and lose their money, instead of going to court or sometiing its orth worth the hassle for most people and they sit their stealing our money and laugh at us. Complain to police or credit card company they have taken your money by fraud and deceit, or even go to the media about this, they are doing a big story very soon on these scammers. so call channel 7 im sure they will love to add you to their story.
