GoPro Hero 7 Black - Buy @ Airport Duty Free or Online With Deal?

Hello my fellow bargain hunters! 💸🤛

I'm off on holidays in 30 days and wanna get a GoPro Hero 7 Black to take lots of videos whilst on holidays imagining myself editing all these vids post holiday and uploading to YouTube to become a Y.T sensation - but in reality probably never actually getting around to getting them off the SD Card in the first place b/c too lazy and dreaming's much better than effort.

So I wanted to ask your advice! What's the best way to waste the least amount of money?
Should I buy a GPH7B at Duty Free without the tax? Or should I buy one online with a deal - such as the eBay Plus deal this weekend?

(Deffo going to go the GPH7B cause of the new image stabilisation thing)

I see that the lowest price recently was $399 with a -20% voucher for the goodguys on eBay.
Do you reckon I should just wait for another one of those?

Thanks for help in advance!

  • Airport duty free is a load of rubbish. There's nothing that's cheapest there.

(Maybe cigarettes… and occasionally low end booze)

  • Def get one on sale before your travel and claim via TRS

If you buy through eBay you will need to contact the seller to obtain a proper tax invoice. EBay invoices are not proper tax invoices so you can’t claim any GST paid. Also be aware that some sellers purchase the cameras from overseas and have them sent here. They may not be Australian sellers in the true sense and can’t supply a tax invoice.

If you buy through good guys you should be fine asking for a tax invoice. But be careful upon your return as the camera counts towards your $900 allowance. If you claim the GST on departure it will be registered on your immigration/customs record and if they discover you purchased a lot of other goods overseas plus the camera exceeds $900 then the entire amount is subject to duty and there is no $900 threshold anymore.

  • The Good Guys will provide the correct invoice so no issues from that end.

On the invoice it will be $399 with GST component being $36.27

You actually pay $319.20, and get $36.27 back at TRS which means you end up paying $282.93 which is great value.

    • Just so others don't get confused, $399 is the price AFTER the 20% discount. You'll get roughly $49 back at TRS and end up paying $350.

  • Thanks for the wise advice y'all!
