Is there a best time to buy Business Class Tickets?

Hi again!
Just wanted some advice as to whether there is a best time of year to buy Business Class tickets to Paris for the end of next May? Do they ever go on sale? Has anyone used a travel agent or online site to monitor prices over a period of time to get the best deal?
Thanks for your help.

Like any perishable commodity they do go on sale - when? there's no fixed time in the past decade of so that I have been looking.

The best bet is to sign up to the marketing/sales/advertisement emails from the major airlines - some past promotions for example British Airways where you buy Business Class and get a complimentary upgrade to First Class one way, Etihad/Qatar providing free 5* accommodation at their hub if one elects a stopover.

Some travel agents can do mixed economy/business class for/from $4500 return.

You can also look at second / third tier airlines such as Garuda Indonesia / many chinese carriers where you can get very beneficial deals.

Don't dismiss Garuda though, they have been rated very highly recently.

Never, drop a sleeping pill and Save your money

    • This is pure ozbargain, just need a link to cashrewards sleeping pill shop.
IMO if your concerned about the price of business class and you can’t figure out a way to get it free or heavily discounted, your better saving your money and spending the cash at the destination.

    • Where do we drop it? Do i need to pick it up again?

    • Until you wake up groggy on the other side and get Taken.
      Or miss your scheduled stopover.

A better question is how low do business class airfares to Paris go. Therefore when you see a fare for that price then you know its time to buy.

I heard best is to get economy seats then upgrade to business class using Qantas frequent flyer points bought here at ozb classified

      definitely not.

    • Not a great idea. First is that you need to buy an economy ticket that is upgradable in the first place, which are more expensive than sale fares. Next, success of upgrades to business class for Qantas is highly dependent on status you hold with Qantas. If you don't have status, all upgrade requests for higher status flyers(platinum and gold) will be processed before your upgrade request. And let's not even go into the legalities of using freq flyer points bought on ozb classifieds.

For flying in May there can be some good early bird fares coming in around August to October. As others have said, sign up to major airlines promotion emails (set up a spam email address if you don't want perpetual spam to your main one), or flight alerts on Skyscanner or Kayak.
Look at flying say, from Adelaide if the connecting flight didn't make it too much. Qatar have the phenomenal Qsuite flying from there from August and you can get it to Europe for as low as $5500.
Cathay also fly from there and last year I saw business as low as $4500 via Hong Kong.
No matter what, if you do pay a business class fare, make sure you put a frequent flyer number on the booking. One flight won't be enough for Gold status but combined with some domestic it could be. Qatar occasionally have double status promotion and that will get you Oneworld gold in one go.

You could fly to Jakarta in Y return for $600-800 and there are deals from Jakarta to Europe return with Etihad for $2.5k J return.

    • Etihad J is a pretty poor J product though

    When you can afford it.

  • You can get 10% off Virgin business class using the Entertainment Book at the moment.

There is quite often cheap business class flights from Indonesia to Europe. At the moment there is a Turkish Airways flights for around USD 1750, you just need to get a Jetstar or other cheap flight to Jakarta. I think there is also other business class flights very cheap from Jakarta to Europe at the moment and they come up regularly. I suggest you subscribe to some of the frequent flyer website like Australian business traveller, Loyalty Lobby, Pointhacks, Australianfrequentflyer, and others as they give usually give advice when the fares become available.

    Fare Details:

Fare: Turkish Airlines (TK) JF2BRO JKT to LON.
    Booking class: J.
Price: from $1,744 ($1,487 carrier charges + taxes & surcharges).
Minimum stay: 3 days or until the first Sunday after departure.
    Maximum stay: 2 months.
    Stopovers: not permitted.
Transfers: 6 transfers permitted in each direction.
    Travel restrictions: valid for travel commencing on/after 01JUN 19 and on/before 15DEC 19.
    Sales restrictions: tickets must be issues on/after 01JUN 19 and on/before 19JUL 19.
Cancellations: ticket is non-refundable in case of cancel/no-show/refund.

  • Forgot to mention in the above comment that both Qatar and Emirates also have cheap business class sale fares at the moment from Jakarta to London, both under $2,000 USD per person return, I havent checked the travel dates but they are easy enough to find online.

  • Just flew business class from Jakarta to Paris for 1600$ return in June via Oman Air. Had to book Melbourne to Jakarta separately and paid using QF Points.
