Hi guys,

Is the 2000 v6 camry has a interference engine or non interference engine?

Thanks

    3.0L Inline 6 VVT-i (1998 2JZ-GE) Interference
    3.0L V6 Non-Interference

    • Thanks

    • Curious. What is an interference engine?

One where the pistons will hit the valves if they get out of sync - ie with a timing belt/chain/gear failure, or a valve gets stuck extended. If a non-interference engine timing system goes wrong the pistons and valves can both keep moving without smashing into each other.

Planning on seeing just how long that timing belt will last for?

Yes my car is due for timing belt service, but I want to wait for few weeks to get original toyota parts from the US through a friend.

A few weeks? Do you do 20,000km per week?

The belt doesn’t just spontaneously disintegrate at the scheduled service interval. You could be lucky to go another 100,000km before it does. They recommend the interval with a pretty big margin of error.

I’ll bet there are plenty of 20year old camrys that are still running in their original belt well past the interval with the driver waiting for it to fail because it is worth more to replace than the value of the whole car.

        • The car has done 170k, it's a 2001 touring model, bought from one single owner. He reckons the timing belt was not changed. This is my secondary weekend car. Thanks

          • @kangaroo: If that is the case a few weeks won’t hurt. Either that or why bother at all unless you are doing it yourself.

@kangaroo: Hold on, you have multiple weekend cars and you chose to buy an ancient Camry?

Weekend cars are supposed to be fun, they aren't supposed to bore you to death.

            • @[Deactivated]: I bought this wagon to carry my Kayak and Bike…that's my kind of weekend.

            • @[Deactivated]: But this is the "touring model"

              • @JIMB0: Touring Wagon, v6, the last Camry wagon made in 2001, before Toyota killed it to make huge markups on the suv market with Kluger and Prado.
i love this car. Drives like a dream.

@kangaroo: It definitely does not drive like a dream.

@[Deactivated]: Your dreams are quite different to others Burner.

We had a 1997 V6 Camry. While not a sports car it was certainly a solid, comfortable ride with plenty of power and great reliability (that we ultimately didn’t test). Perfect car for highway driving.

@Euphemistic: No one who is not insane aspires to a Camry.

                      • @[Deactivated]: there are plenty of people who think it is insane to aspire to a BMW/Mercedes that will cost and depreciate a lot more than a Camry while doing the same job.

@Euphemistic: Oh yeah, they are exactly the same.

                          • @[Deactivated]: In terms of being able to provide transport they do the same job. Open the door, sit in, drive to destination. I never said they were exactly the same, but do the same job - transport.

Most people don’t give a damn about the elitist snobbery of ‘premium’ brands.

                              @Euphemistic: Most people huh?

You think that people buy Mercedes purely for brand snobbery?

                              • @[Deactivated]: I’m sorry. What was I thinking. I must not be a worthy human owning a lowly Nissan. Mercedes are the only vehicles that will take me from a to b. I can’t believe that Hyundai are still in business because no one wants their piles of poo.

So what do you own Burner?

                              • @[Deactivated]: Yes they do, as most people buy the entry level shitters, and then can't afford to service them, as they spent all their money trying to impress the neighbours.

@brendanm: Except they all come with servicing included now.

@[Deactivated]: You sure like to dream up ways to denigrate anyone who doesn't have what you deem to be a "worthy car", all the while adding nothing of value. Congratulations.
