Idea for an OzBargain iPhone/Android App!

was walking around DJ's the other night with the 50% off sale and there were some real jems. I wondered to myself, what if someone created an app that would make posting a deal they found at a shop/business easy as simply taking a pic and having it uploaded!?

So the flow would be like this

  1. Find a deal at a store
  2. Take a photo of it
  3. Choose option to post it to OzBargain (similar to posting it on Twitpic or Facebook)
  4. Opens up form with your username/pw, plus rest of the deal posting fields required for Ozbargain.
  5. click submit and deal is uploaded!

Some of the best deal's I've seen are from people who are finding deals on the beat. would you use something like this?

Definitely would be good. When I've seen a deal that requires a photo. I take the photo, go home, sync up to computer, and use the normal method. Of course, I have a Nokia so neither an Iphone or Android app is useful. :(

  • Yep - an app would be nice.

No particular need for it, because you can do all that stuff just using the camera and the browser pointed to m.ozbargain.com.au (or even the main site).

    • That's true! However a simple app to keep everything in one would be handy. it'll upload and host the pics, have the forms all there easy to update. Cost of app development vs use would be questionable I think :)

      • Wish that iOS wasn't such a closed thing. If there was a way to update apps "by remote script" then it'd make development a lot easier.

The guy who writes the Consume app worked out a way to get "plugins" through Apple approval. So, the app is basically a shell, and then it connects to the guys' server to grab data that it needs. That means that the data can be updated at any time without requiring approval through the app store. I can only assume that he's using some sandboxed area of the iOS so that there is no way that it can be used for code injection, etc.
