Breville Barista Express Compared to Sunbeam EM4300 + Breville Smart Grinder Pro

I Want to know OzBargain's experience with either of these machines and the Sunbeam Combo is what i plan on purchasing.

According To Choice Magazine Both these machines received same total ratings. With the sunbeam having 10% Better heating consistency (Apparently)

The Smart Grinder Pro is also Choice Magazines highest Rating.

Which machine would last longer as neither of these machines come with a warranty of more than 1 year. (Smart Grinder Pro 2 years)

The Breville 870 has dropped to the cheapest price of about $400 Dollars and averages higher($450 ish)

The Sunbeam does not go on Sale very often totaling Approx $380 with Grinder.

I'm not in a rush of purchasing either machine very soon (Possibly in a 3-6 Month Period) - Or if there is a very good deal.

If Users have any other suggestions Please do comment, Note: I'm not interested in purchasing an expensive Coffee Machine (Nothing over $600)

I Drink a Cup of Coffee Every Day, However i would use the steam wand More for Milk beverages.

Basically i don't want to drop $400 or more on a machine and next year throw it out, yes i know ACL etc.. etc…

  • We have a Breville, although it is a larger model than you are looking at.
If my quick search is correct, the Breville has a built-in grinder. If so, that makes a big difference in kitchen clutter removal. The Breville also seems to have more wattage, although both are 15 Bar pumps.

We haven't had any issues with our Breville, but we do clean / descale it regularly and make sure that the water tank filter is also cleaned.

  • Oh my goodness you will be flamed for even bringing the Sunbeam brand up here. So many people buy the breville dual boiler and rave about it.

Any you WILL be told to wait for a deal and increase your budget to $700 to get the dual boiler.

Well it was either here or CoffeeSnobs ill take my chance here.

Well in all seriousness, might be quicker to get an answer through search through the specific deal threads of both these machines. All the owners come on and say how great/crap they are.

exactly!! I owned breville's, sunbeams etc. All good/ok

I bought the breville dual boiler. OMFG. So good. Words cant express, worth every cent.

Alternatively get a sunbeam EM7000? great machine….used one for years.

I bought the 5 year warranty with my em7000. Died at 4.5 years. GOLD….full refund

bought the dual boiler, with 5 year wty…still going strong 2.5 years later.

Hopefully it dies at 4.5 years too…..LOL

      • Or…..if you really want to stick within your budget, then buy the BES870 with extended warranty for 5 years

I am not a big fan of extended wty, but for coffee machines, its a no brainer. In my view, that is.

It has served me well, twice!

        • Where do u Purchase the Extended Warranty From the One on Ebay is a Ripoff.

          • +1

@Tehcookiemonsta: I bought mine in store, at TGG or was it Harvey Norman.
No, pretty sure it was the good guys.
Waited for sale time in store, then whammo :)

  • You should wait for a dual boiler machine to go down to $700.

  • Where you seeing the 870 for 400?

    Best I've seen 460+40 Cb

    • It was $462 - 50 = $412 , Would of Been $406.56 If there was no Cap.

  • We have the cheapest Breville you can get (Cafe Venezia?). It was recommended by Choice magazine. The first lasted 2 years, the 2nd 14 months (no warranty left) and the 3rd 1 month (died on Monday).

I'm not confident in Breville products and Choice recommendations.

    • To be Honest i'm not Confident in Coffee Machines in general, Might actually be the only product i'd purchase with extended warranty, so many issues with leaks and etc…

      • My GF likes the machines.

I use either a french press or a Bialetti stove top. I've had 2 Bialetti in 30+ years. The first lasted 27yrs.

      • The key is to buy one made by a company that actually makes 2, 3 and 4 group machines.

Their business is purely coffee machines not mass appliance manufacture.

        • Im not exactly sure what you mean can you elaborate?

          • @Tehcookiemonsta: Breville manufacture all types of general appliances.

With coffee machines, you're best off purchasing one built by a company that builds commercial coffee machines for cafes etc. The build quality and parts are much higher standard, they specialize in building coffee machines.

Rancilio, lelit, la marzocco, simonelli etc.

            • +1

@crashloaded: None of those Are anywhere close to my Price Range. I'm not interested in purchasing a Second hand machine and having to deal with Coffee Machine Part Problems.

              • @Tehcookiemonsta: Well you get what you pay for. I have a rancilio Silvia. It's probably the cheapest home machine you can get that's built by a company that specializes in espresso machines.

I've used it to make 3-4 coffees every day for 5 years and has never required a repair that needed me to take it somewhere.

  • BES920 for $632 + grinder for $160 = $792. Best combination on earth…

Otherwise BES878 for $639… or just get the grinder for $160 and a BES840 for $320.

That being said… if you can steal a (slightly) used EM7000 + Grinder like I did for $200 you'll be laughing

Coffee machines are surprisingly hard to move, just wait for the right one to pop up and grab it

  • Wow, these prices are crazy low compared to what it’s now! Are people mining with their coffee machines? Lol.
