  • Suitable for indoor or outdoor use?

    • +5

i shouldve commented about this in my description, sorry.

So with this ball you would play with it indoors, playing outdoors with it will ruin the leather and basically you couldve just gotten a cheaper ball to destroy.
for an outdoor ball you should just get a cheap ~$30 ball to practice with

      • Thanks. Have been using the NBA replica ball from Kmart which is an indoor/outdoor basketball (sells for $99 at Rebel). Its held up well with mainly outdoor use, but will need to be replaced soon so was keen to try a Molten.

        • +2

Funnily enough, I wanted a ball for outdoor and I tested the Kmart no brander:
          https://www.kmart.com.au/product/basketball---size-7/2127414

I'm use to using the Molten GF and GG for indoor, and was very surprised how good the Kmart ball is.
I bought a Spalding one from Costco the week prior and returned it as there was no grip at all…

        • +1

I got that ball from Kmart too! Really good value but this deal is too good to pass up on. :D

        • How about the Wilson jet pro?

Sells for 30$, it's a nice composite leather indoor/outdoor ball.

          • +1

@nikoris: Not sure about the Wilson. Gone through two of these before I got the NBA replica ball. It's pretty good although I much prefer the one I linked earlier.

            • +1

@adr8: i got the jet pro.
it feels nice in the hand, the bounce is very nice too.

I felt that the ball got dirty too easily though, that's my only complaint from the two times i have played with it already.

  • Great basketball. I bought this after owning a GF7 and have had it for about 2 years.

    • Hi danwann, how does this compare to GF7? Which one has the better feel?

  • Just a reminder, Molten's new basketball series is coming out next week.
However at this price, I will still recommend the GG7X~

  • Fantastic price for an indoor ball! I love the molten composite leather feel

Not sure how much deliver is for this though!

  • awesome price!!! Just bought one 2 weeks ago DOH!

Just to those not familiar with sizes (parents, beginner players etc):

Size 7 = Adult male ball (official sized ball for males 13yo+)

Size 6 = Adult female ball (official sized ball for females 9yo+), and also Young Males (9-12yo)

Size 5 = Children's ball (official size for 5-8yo children).

You may at first think a basketball is a basketball… but there's a definite difference to each, and for good reason.

    Source- Me!
(I've been involved in basketball for a lot longer than some of you have been alive) ;).

Which NBA team do you play for?

      • +11

        Flint Tropics, and you?

    • +2

who is your fav nba player?

      • +3

        Charles Barkley, then Shaq.

Back when ballers could actually play in the post 'back to the basket' and rough it up a little.
The game lost something when they took away that contact.

Now it's shoot the 3 after dribbling it down the court yourself, or pass it around the perimeter a little… and then shoot the three.

Bring that 3pt line back towards the half way line, and encourage post play, pick and rolls, set plays etc.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Warriors. I wish they won the 3 peat because they are without a doubt one of the best teams ever (damn shame they had 2 major injuries). But even with one of the best backcourts in history, and Green reminding me so much on how Barkley played, there's no big ball anymore. And that's sad.

        • in my opinion, post play is boring, 3 pointers and perimeter shooting brought a new dimension to bball, especially when in the 4th quarter where games can be won by clutch 3 point shots.

warriors desperately need a good center (+ bench depth lol) cousins was meant to be the answer but he isn't reliable and can't control his anger. Bogut seems to have lost his ability, which is pity… As a warriors fan, i just hope what happened to D rose doesn't happen to Klay, hopefully D rose continues to improve and gets contract he deserves

          • @paraneoplastic: Cousins was never fully healthy. If you don't think he's a star you must have just started watching this year lmao.

            • -1

@dogee: lol I've been watching for ages, cousins did take 5m contract for a ring, it was a good off load for sac kings because their young core is doing well now …

He still hasn't fully recovered yet so my point stands, gsw need a good center

              • @paraneoplastic: Warriors just needed their core to be healthy… Wouldn't say they "desperately" need a good center when Cousins was coming off an ACL and a Quad injury and Looney could barely lift his arm…

    • Size 6 is used up to U14 Boys and mixed (seniors)!

  • Thanks ordered one, this is a great deal on a very good indoor ball. Delivery was free to Melbourne, came to $68 not $67.

  • I just bought a Wilson jet pro for 30 bucks and I'm happy with it, really good for outdoor playing in concrete.

I wonder if this is better.

  • Thanks OP, needed a new indoor ball

  • This is an awesome price. I've had a GG7 for about 2 years now, play/train once a week indoors and it's held up really well. It's not as soft as the GF and doesn't have as deep grooves. Different feel. I prefer the GG, compared to the spalding TF1000 and TF elite, which feel rougher and have much more pronounced grooves.

  • Nice find.

Would you say this is the Molten equivalent to the Spalding TF-1000?

    • Both balls are composite leather so I'd say yes. The stadium I play at used to use the TF1000, I never liked the feel of it when playing games, but it's personal preference.

  • +1

isnt it better to add $44 and you get the premium leather one?

    https://molten.com.au/collections/premium-basketballs/produc…

    • +2

That one is only available in a size 6 and IIRC the GL is an all leather ball, which wears quicker and is higher maintenance.

    • -4

YES!!!! Absolutely. The premium leather is MUCH better. I have the GG7X and its ok..but the grip and longevity of the GL7X is incomparable. I would never buy another GG7X and I got mine for $40. Spending $60 plus on this ball is criminal. The best bang for buck in basketballs at this price range is this https://www.hartsport.com.au/sport/basketball/basketballs/ha…
This Hart BBall is very good quality and will outlast the GG7X by a year with regular use. Plus its much more grippy.

    • +2

Actually the GF7X is the better buy, its more commonly used, and I would say from experience and playing in a comp every week its one of the better indoor balls at an okay price, since the GF7 is no longer available.

      https://molten.com.au/collections/basketballs/products/gfx-s…

  • -4

Also, this ball can be found for under $30 such as here.. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PU-Leather-Basketball-Ball-Molte…

Get the Premium leather if you're a baller. Otherwise save your money.

    • +1

And it will be as fake as the one you got for $40.

    • nothing i can say to you besides do your own research dude. as truth000 said, you're stuff is fake. If you think it's real, feel free to make a post

  • +2

    Dammit. No size 7 left

    • Yeah devo all out of 7 only 6 left

  • Where do you all play in Melbourne?

Side note - lack of good street courts was disappointing, coming here from New Zealand.

Basketball seems to be popular these days. NFL too. Maybe NASCAR next?

    • +2

      Don't like American sports huh?
That's ok… so what sport do you like?

      • -3

Rugby Union, Cricket, Football, Tennis, Athletics…..most world sports.

        • +2

You'd never guess what the 5 most popular team sports for kids in Australia are:

          1) Soccer
          2) Basketball
          3) Cricket
          4) Netball
          5) Aussie Rules.

Basketball isn't some recent American fad mate. Over a million people in Australia play it.
Basketball is right up there for a 'world sport'. It's why it's in the Olympics.

Your other examples of NFL and Nascar are not, and putting them in the same sentence as Basketball is naive.

  • Might just get on this. I haven't got any balls.

    • +1

      Varys that you?

  • Dam good price paid 75 for this

  • Ugh I really wanted this but size 7 sold out. Someone find an equivalent good indoor ball deal!

  • anyone used the chinese one off ebay? any good? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PU-Leather-Basketball-Ball-Molte…

    • +1

Yeah, they're not grippy like the original ones.
