  • Not bad, anything else to sell the sizzle a little more?

  • Tomorrow Aldi has similar quality but cheaper.

    • Saturday, and yes agreed. They are cheaper, but weigh ever so slightly more

    • samsonite has 10 years international warranty, aldi just 1 year local ausie warranty

How do you know quality will be similar? One of my Samsonite’s has done close to 100 flights and is full of scuff marks and light scratches but still in perfect condition. In my experience, cheap (hard case) luggage tends to crack over time (if the wheels and handle survive).

  • Really good price!

    Any deal on Cosmolite? :)

  • Amazing price. I have one of these and can definitely recommend the quality and functionality.

  • OP, if ordered tonight, will it be delivered on Monday (Syd metro)? Which shipping carrier do you use?

  • Excellent timing, OP. I have spent the last few days researching ABS, polypropylene and polycarbonate cases (trying to understand the advantages/disadvantages of each material) with a view to purchase in the next month or so. Not all cases are created equal and these are brilliant prices for an Octolite. Just purchased, thanks!

  • Hi Rep,

Any deals on the SAMSONITE SCURE SPINNER 81CM BLACK?

  • Noticed after purchasing the small cabin bag that the dimensions are as follows:
    24 x 55 x 36 cm
JetStar & Qantas carry on restrictions are:
    23 x 56 x 36 cm

Does anyone think they will care that much about 1cmm being moved from the 50 to the 20?

    • I don't think 1 cm makes much of a difference and would think those little measurement cases at the gates would allow for a bit of slack. You can't really tell the difference between 23cm and 24cm thickness even with a ruler since all luggage is curved somehow and therefore very hard to measure. Having said that, this review seems to indicate that their 55cm wasn't allowed as carry-on (but another 55cm Samsonite was): https://www.luggage.co.nz/blog/samsonite-octolite-review/

My experience is that yes they will care. Qantas refused to let me on a flight because my hand luggage was too large. The silly thing was I was flying from LA to Sydney then back to Perth. In those days international and domestic was different which I did not know, so I got on at LAX ok with my Samsonite hand luggage but got to Sydney and they refused to let me go on without checking it in as domestic requirements were smaller and my bag was imbetween! I had fragile items in there so I refused. They were arguing about 1 cm and I did not even have a choice to fly direct so had to transit. They sent the Manager over to give me an earful quote "Qantas does not compromise safety standards not even for you". To which I replied "I am not checking this in so I guess you will have to unload the luggage that I checked in". I said this knowing full well that they would not fly with some of my luggage on board unaccompanied. They do not like to offload as it takes forever. We went back and forth and eventually they agreed to store it for me in the cabin crew area so it did not go in overhead lockers because that extra 1cm was "dangerous'. The plane was ended up being half an hour behind schedule! I think for most airlines would be relaxed but for Qantas, based on bad experience, would not hold my breath, especially since they often even weigh the cabin bags now.

    • Have you seen this article on dailymail today? Interesting timing. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7195605/Australian-…

    Thanks for considering our deal.

    How polite. :)

  • 81cm still avilable?

  • Bought one.
    Thank you :)

  • Hi OP, I just placed an order for three suitcases, what's the likelihood of it being posted out today for it to arrive by next Friday?

  • Awesome deal thanks OP!

  • I had a look at these at Myer just now. They look quite old school (eg from the 90s) and the material doesn't feel particularly premium either.

    • "the material doesn't feel particularly premium either"

It might feel thin or weak but it is meant to flex to absorb impact. That is why it outlasts the harder but less durable cheapie ABS. Old school? I don't mind. I'm old. :-)

      • No, sorry, I meant the opposite: as someone coming from a Cosmolite, contrary to the more expensive Samsonites, this one is made of a harder/cheaper material (as to be expected for this cheaper range) which isn’t flexible but quite thick and therefore quite heavy for its size.

          "I meant the opposite"

Sorry, I misunderstood. My wife has a Cosmolite 3 and this is nowhere near that weight/quality but it's also nowhere near that price. I'm happy with a 3.3kg polypropylene compromise, especially at this price. Polycarbonate would be stronger and more flexible but even heavier. Horses for courses I spose.

  • Has anyone had any problems with the 81cm luggage with check in? Just reading up on some airlines and they advise the the maximum dimensions must not exceed +/-158cm (depending on the airline). With the extra large 81cm Samsonite it has a total dimension of 169cm.

    • I would not buy a 81cm bag for overseas travel and I’m puzzled why Samsonite (and other brands) have introduced this size. I have a terrific older Samsonite which is 78cm (which used to be the top size). It is huge and measuring it all up it comes to 157cm.

  • Has anyone had an order shipped confirmation email yet?
