An Electric Toothbursh That Is Cheap to Run?

I want to buy my first electric toothbrush, partly because I'm about to get braces, and partly because I'm lazy, but I know very little about them.
I understand that the heads need replacing. So I'm looking for recommendations. I want a toothbrush that isn't going to cost me a lot in the long-term. So something that can recharge and not rely on disposable batteries, and one for which I can cheaply buy new heads.
Which toothbrush will be the cheapest over the course of a year?
Thanks in advance!

  • For only one year it will just be the initial cost and nothing else, you can easily get 1 year out of a quality head and they usually come with two. Philips Sonicare Diamond Clean is obviously the top choice but expensive, ShaverShop has a pretty good deal going on the Sonicare Flex at the moment here

    • how much do the replacement heads cost? Do both of the brushes you mentioned use the same head?

They definitely do NOT last a whole year. They last about as long as regular toothbrushes, maybe less since there's more friction. If the coloured bristles start fading, or it feels dull, then change.

OP, there are generic, compatible brush heads that are cheaper than Philips official. I've used Diamondwhite which are decent enough clones, and well-reviewed on Amazon.

  • Aldi do a good elec brush with cheap heads

A good 'starter' electric toothbrush is the Oral-B Vitality (currently reduced to $20 (usually $45) @ Woolworths).

Replacement heads are approx. RRP $14 (approx. $9-10 on sale). Dentists recommend changing your toothbrush about every three months or earlier, if the bristles are frayed. I was changing the toothbrush head every 6-8wks when I had braces.

  • Currently using this model but in different colour. I got it for 183$ a few months ago. I would never go back to normal toothbrush unless I am travelling or something.

  • Tesla.

  • So at this point it's a toss-up between the Oral-B Vitality, and the Sonicare flex.

  • I ended up getting the Sonicare Flex.

  • the Oral B ones that cost like 20-30 bucks from Chemist Warehouse are pretty good.
