Currency Exchange (Sydney Metro)

Will be going on a tour to China, so would like to have some local currency ready. Where in Sydney exchange at good rates? Or just go to the bank or some random money changer? Looking to exchange about AU$1000. Thanks!

Try this place - no fees but they only do the major currencies. Not sure about the chinese currency. I think they would do it.

Depending on teh country you go to, you might get a better rate at the destination rather than exchanging money here. I don't know what hte case is for China though.

  • u may want to call KVB Kun Lun first OP. I heard things had changed, as I used KVB previously for monetary exchanges. They have really good rates, really close to market, but apparently they now charge transaction fee, due to demand..

    • Oh really? That is disappointing if they do! That is one of the reasons I liked them so much!

  • if u stop over in singapore, better exchange at money changer at lucky plaza, most of them got very competitive rate. but if flow directly, better withdraw the cash using your saving account in china.

  • You can get cash from ATMs using a 28degrees card for example so you don't need to change so much, just enough to get you to the first ATM, which might even be in the airport.

  • What my bf and his bro did before going to China. Is go around to a few banks/exchange places…keep getting rates and ask them to match. Should take an hour in the CBD, but we always get the best rates then anything in China or airports. Don't use card until you need to banks have a horrible exchange rate, kinda like paypal.

    • it is depend how much do want to exchange. if couple hundred dollar only, i guess u still not get the best rate, remember most ausie bank still charge fee to convert your money, cba charge $8, westpac and anz around 10-15. never dealing with nab before, coz nab always got the worst rate. not sure now

  • Thanks for the info! Will call up KVB Kunlun tomorrow and checkout a few currency exchanges in the city.

  • Just tried these guys.. they are certainly not the best rates around… Don't think I'll ever use them again..
