[Product Recall] Xiaomi M365 Electric Scooter Safety Recall (International Units)

I wasn't sure where the best place to post this where it would get the most eyeballs so I've put it in General.

M365 SCOOTER HAS BEEN RECALLED!!!

Recently I was riding my Xiaomi M365 Scooter, and the steering column literally detached from the base completely while I was riding, causing me to fall off and fracture my rib. Thankfully I was on a footpath and not on the road.

Well I contacted Xiaomi, and they said to check if my model had a certain serial number because they have been VERY RECENTLY RECALLED due to this exact issue!

https://www.mi.com/global/support/mi-electric-scooter-recall…

The affected serial numbers (S/N) range from: 21074/00000316 - 21074/00015107 and 16133/00541209 - 16133/00544518.

I repeat… SOME M365 SCOOTERS HAVE BEEN RECALLED BY XIAOMI!!!

If you have one with the above serial, DO NOT RIDE IT! You could literally kill yourself if the steering column falls off while you are riding on the road.

EDIT: My scooter serial was NOT part of the recall, so I suggest being careful if you feel your hinge is feeling loose if you have an M365

  • Is it legal to ride Xiaomi scooters on Victorian roads?

    • Not that I know of yet, no

Thank you so much for posting this. So glad you didn't come off worse than you have, good luck with the recovery.

I just bought one during the ebay plus sale, I'll have to check the serial - this is so scary!

I hope you will recover soon. Checked mine a while ago, wasn't affected. The serial was way behind those affected ones and the scooter was manufactured at the end of 2018.

So was your scooter part of the recall?

    • I just discovered my scooter was NOT part of the recall. So my advice would be to take care regardless of your scooter serial.

      • Did it show any signs of imminent failure? Rattling or looseness?

        • +1

Yes. It felt loose while I was riding it, but that is a common problem people report on Youtube. I intended to tighten it when I got home, but then it came off. So if the hinge feel wobbly, definitely get off and check and/or walk home.

  • @Fasty is your scooter part of the recall? And if so it might be helpful to others if you can advise where and when you purchased it.
Mine is not part of the recall. I purchased from gearbite in January this year.
Regardless of the recall list, there is an issue with the folding mechanism. I've been following this facebook group and a lot of users recommend upgrading the folding latch to a stronger version.

  • I don't know if my scooter was part of the recall because I had already returned it.

It wasn't the latch issue, although you're right it doesn't seem the strongest, but I never had a problem with that… It was the hinge bolt that just must have fallen out

    • But yes, I got mine from Gearbite too, in around March I think
