21st Birthday Parties Gifts Suggestions for Males & Females

Hi everyone,

I've got many 21st birthdays coming up for both males and females and was wondering what gifts I should take with me for males and what for females (the price range, gift ideas, ozbargain suggestions for cheap gifts that don't appear cheap etc). They are all still living at home with their parents (uni students).

Would be really helpful also if someone can give me an idea of what to expect in those parties.

Thanks

Edit: I'm a similarly aged student too

Money. Alcohol if they drink. If they live out of home, plants. Cooking classes. Cocktail making classes. I don’t know, this is super hard if you don’t know anything about the person.

Also please don’t get jewellery unless you know the females wear it. I got so much for mine and I never wear jewellery. Wasted gifts, I would have preferred nothing.

    • Alcohol is a good idea. You can often buy 2 bottles of Moet at BWS on special. Then you have gifts for 2 people. I don't know how much you want to spend though.

      • Thanks for this :) they are all still living with their parents (uni students).

know how much you want to spend though.

How much should I be aiming at for friends?

How much should I be aiming at for friends?

I can't answer that question sorry. Expectations vary according to your social group and I am well over 21 now. When I was 21 and going to 21st parties every weekend we mostly used to buy group presents with each person contributing $10-20.

  • Assuming they drink then alcohol is a safe bet.

    • Wizzy suggested 2 bottles of moet from BWS, what do you suggest?

Depends what they drink. Personally i would lean towards spirits.

Who are you? A similarly aged friend or an older relative? Because that changes the context of the gift completely.

Okay. That makes it simple then. Your aim should be to give something a)fun b)money or c)something small and useful, but you have to really know the person well to do that.

Last 21st I went to, I gave 50x $1 coins in a imitation bank bag. You know the ones from super hero comics, when the bad guy robs the bank and comes out holding a bag with a big dollar sign on the front? It was like that.

It was fun, annoying, but ultimately well received because hey, who doesn't like money?
Another idea I had was giving money inside jello, and they have to eat it out.

I have no memory of what I got for my 21st. Buying a present is not a big deal, just something thoughtful that represents your relationship would be fine. You’re worrying waaaay too much about this. These parties are usually big events with lots of people and presents - they will not remember what you do or do not buy!

Fitbit type watch if they don't have one and maybe value fitness.

  • Pink dildo - cheap and hilarious for either sex.

There's no difference between gifts for either gender, don't be sexist, it's a bad look. The 21st is no different to any other birthday, 20th is the big one because that's when you exit your teens, so just get whatever you think each individual would like. I'm sure this isn't the first time you've had to buy gifts for someone's birthday… Don't just buy them alcohol, that's about as lame as it gets.

  • Xiaomi powerbank if they don't already have one with the right cable for their phone. Might throw them off but it will be unexpectedly handy in the future.
