was in Downtown Duty Free in Adelaide and they had this amazing deal, also please note it can be purchased normally all you have to do is pay the GST!! which makes it $439.00 or there abouts,
this is the dual lens kit too.
cheapest on static ice is about $650.00
great camera with SLR functions and good size for travelling.

This kills the S95. It has a much larger sensor. Different league like micro 4/3 cameras. Of course at the end of the day S95 is a pocket camera whereas this will probably have trouble fitting in a coat pocket!
Guessing its on special because the replacement has been announced…

Bit C3 is coming and personally I will not buy 1st generation product.
Just so people know, the NEX-C3's RRP in Australia is $999 for the dual kit lens (Exact same lenses as this). Personally I wouldn't pay an extra $500+ for 2MP and a slightly smaller body.
Thats a great price, was $700 at the beginning of the year!
PLus with the firmware update due in late June, you get many of the features of the replacement NEX C3, bar the 16mp sensor of course
i wonder if the new 16MP sensor sacrifices low-light sensitivity for resolution.

i heard about the sony nex-3 releasing a month ago and i sold it for $550. how lucky i was… would've been very depressed if i saw this :P
im looking for a cheap Nex 5
dw about the nex5 all you get is 1080p recording no other difference
& magnesium alloy construction! But considering how cheap this is, definitely not worth the extra.
the nex-5 is also smaller and more ergo fit in the hands. i think you can also use a remote shutter for it too.
The video recording on the NEX-5 is fantastic. Also the it has an IR receiver (which the NEX-3 doesn't), which is a necessity if you plan on using your camera for long exposure photography. Also, importantly, I find the build quality of the NEX-5 to be much better - it is a thinner metal body as opposed to the NEX-3's thicker plastic body.

besides the video resolution.. the NEX-5 records in AVCHD where as NEX-3 records in MPEG4.. if the NEX-5 recorded in 720p using AVCHD, how much smaller would be it to the NEX-3's MPEG4 720p vid? :S

Don't forget to use AVCHD for 1920x1080. If you use MP4 it's just 1440x1080.

yeah, i've been hunting for NEX-5 for a while now. But this is definitely worth the price itself. I mean, come on, it comes with both lenses!

Great price, but the Camera is cheap because the next version, the NEX C3 was just announced, and while it doesn't add that much it's still the next version of it.
BTW don't know how warranty will work since the NEX 3 has been officially discontinued by Sony.
But I have the NEX 5 and it's an awesome camera, and the NEx 3 is only SLIGHTLY worse, so if you want a NEX 3 on the cheap go for it.
They'll try to repair the camera, and if they can't then they'll either replace it with a refurbished or a new camera (if they have any stock left) and then if all else fails a new camera with similar specs (should be the model that replaced it)

Tried finding the downtown duty free in Melbourne CBD but it has been replaced by JR Duty free and they don't have it in stock. Other shops were not willing for a price match and most of them didnt have it in stock. Also the stocks in Adelaide are over.
