Samsung Washer/Dryer Repeat Dryer Issue

Hi all! First time thread starter, tried the search, didn’t have any luck.

Would love your thoughts on best course of action regarding what feels like a lemon washed dryer - I only have three months warranty left so keen to gain the hive minds steer on what to do.

Three times now the dryer heating element has appeared to fail. It’s almost like every six months, like clockwork it just stops drying.

Samsung service has actually been quite good, I am concerned however in three months I now begin to be out of pocket for when this issue arises again, it’s a bit sad I assume it’s coming.

Thinking about if I should consider raising issues with Samsung now, or do I wait till it happens again? Best way to raise something escalated like this? I know the usual “process” the guys on the frontline will not cover such an issue.

What are my rights as a consumer?

It’s getting repaired again tomorrow… should I ask “the guy” anything in particular?

Details:

  • Big front load 13kg washer and 7kg dryer - we love the machine… even with the long cycles it does work very well for our household.
  • We would do 2-3 loads per week, just about every time run the wash then dry cycle.
  • We are not overloading it.
  • I raised my concerns with Samsung, they told me to ask the service centre… the service centre just said you got to speak with Samsung.
  • We have what I would say is a lot of Samsung devices/appliances.

Appreciate the support!

UPDATE

Service person came and cleaned out a heap of "gunk" / lint from inside the motor… the machine somehow inhales this, pushes it into the fan and the fan blows it down, at a certain point this blocks where the hot air escapes the fan housing and stops the machine from heating. this in turn impacts drying ability.

Long story short on this issue, its very much the norm for washer dryer combos… its going to be a regular $170 service call.

Tough decision given we don't have the space for a separate washer and dryer. If i wasn't on meetings i would have watched and learnt what the guy did so i could just do it myself.

As a consumer I'm disappointed, I am also reasonable knowing a replacement will not fix this. Don't know my next step…

just about every time run the wash then dry cycle

wow - what sort of electricity bills are you getting?

I'd post on Samsung Social media about your concerns in addition to service centre warranty repair process.

    • Yeah it’s the unfortunate nature of living a few kms from Melb cbd :(

No lines to hang clothes, guess I could get something small in the yard but then will be unlikely to get the car in! Haha

And the bills are not small… with the panel heaters and everything they are our main bill other than rates.

I have noticed they seem to deal ok with public flaming of their products and often direct them to Facebook so I might give it a go!

    Have a read: https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/consumer-rights-guarantees…

If you have a minor problem with a product or service, the business can choose to give you a free repair instead of a replacement or refund. When you have a major problem with a product, you have the right to ask for your choice of a replacement or refund. For a major problem with a service, you can choose to receive compensation for the drop in value below the price paid, or a refund.

I'm surprised you managed to hold on until the 4th repair to ask this question. I would've done it on the 2nd one.
If you have proof of the repair happening every 6 month, I'm sure this is considered major problem.

    • Thank you very much, I’m normally a patient man, and we love the machine… it is annoying every time this happens having to work from home and juggle everything.

I suggest you are in for a world of pain going forward. You are likely within your rights to demand repairs even after the warranty expires, but you are going to fight for it every time. Perhaps you should purchase an extended warranty.

    • This is very much my expectation too, think I may have to move swiftly and do anything on this side of the warranty!

  • We have a Samsung microwave it was DOA when I got it home and I took it back, then swapped immediately. It's less than 12 months old and doesn't work very consistently. I think I will stay clear of Samsung.

    • That's interesting, I have a Samsung microwave too and it leaks radiation so if I turn it on a minute or two later the internet cuts out
