What Happens to All Your Data from Entering Competitions?

Bored at work, I decided to start entering as many competitions as I could, scenic boat cruises, $1200 leather jackets, LG phones…whatever it is if it's free, I want it.

But it got me thinking, what happens to all your data? Do they just use it to send the odd bit of promo to your email, or do you think it gets sold to Nigerian princes?

How reluctant are you to enter all your details into these schemes?

I 100% know that some of these comps sell the info. I've got a separate email and its starting to get spammed by scams

You get spam phone calls and emails usually.

  • The professional competition sites will sell your info. This includes the data you enter into the form and your browsing profile (data matched from 3rd parties, social profiles, location, device id, etc).

Larger brands sometimes sell your info and will often match it to 3rd party data for their own marketing.

Smaller brands will usually only use it for their own marketing.

More importantly, I'm wondering how many I've actually won and they've tried to contact me, but I've discarded thinking they were spam?
