I literally looking for a deal on these last night, thanks OP.
Who else hates getting out of bed on a freezing (even tho your literally 2 steps away from the switch) night to turn off the damn lights!?

  • This might be a stupid question but do I need a smart bridge to use the bulb on the app (I assume I use an app, yes I’m a cave man. I’ve only used xiaomi)

    • Yes you will need the Hue bridge.

    • You can definitely use the Hue Wireless Switch with White smart lights, no bridge and not use an app!

The colour ones maybe, but you won't be able to set colours.

Hmm I still got a few xiaomi bulbs I might just get a B22 converter, Phillips hue seems to be a rich man’s toy

  • Are these any better than the cheap Kmart ones?

    • +4

Kmart ones are fine if you just want to do a couple of lamps and dont really care about switches, motion sensors etc.

Hue are great if you want to do dozens of lights because they use the hub and you dont have dozens of devices connected to your router. Also they can work when the net goes down, and you can have switches/sensors so can do things like couple 2 motion sensors at each end of the hall and many other things in Hue labs.

      Yes, better colour range

      Also support Apple HomeKit

    • At $29 I might try out a colour Kmart bulb! They say they support 'Google Assistant', which is already how I control my combination of Hue/LiFX.

I've got Kmart ones, and have zero issues.

Those are only rgb the hue are RGBWW. So you get true whites not mixed rgb to get white. Like a cheap rgb lightstrip

    • The hue bulb are 10x better but also 3x the price, if you want to just turn on and off your light go kmart if you want full functionality and have an Alexa invest in the hue system its so much better.

  • Dam I wish this was the Edison twist connection, let's see if JBHIFI will notice the difference and price match ;)

Philips are changing some of their packaging so they’ll be running out a lot of the older stock.
