Are You Sure You Have Not Lost Money via Forgotten Bank Accounts, Share etc

So there are billions in unclaimed money from a few cents to thousands etc
Have you forgotten about an account? takes a second to check, below is a link for NSW,
I'm sure other states would offer the same and would be worth checking.

here are some links

What is unclaimed money?

Unclaimed money is money from lost bank accounts, shares, investments and life insurance policies. This money becomes lost when you move house and forget to update your details with a financial institution or company.

Unclaimed money received by ASIC is transferred to the Commonwealth of Australia Consolidated Revenue Fund but is available to be claimed at any time by the rightful owner and there is no time limit on claims.

Bank accounts become unclaimed after 7 years if the account is inactive (no deposits or withdrawals). Life insurance policies become unclaimed 7 years after the policy matures and is not claimed.

Thanks, I found some owed to me.
Just need to go through the process of proving that was my address (~8 years ago) and that I was owed that money by that company (which will be tough from that long ago).

Interestingly, I found those funds on the NSW link, but I have been in Victoria for >20 years (and the address on that site was a Victorian address). Those funds did not show on the Victorian site.

  • I've got $50 with a solicitor from 1998. It's in a joint holding with my ex-partner. The hoops you have to jump through simply to claim isn't worth it.

The thing that really annoys me is that he was a lousy solicitor that cost us $2k in penalties because he couldn't get his act together or read a contract properly. Obviously he was no good at reconciling accounts either.

Sounds lke you need a new solicitor to sue the old solicitor.

  • Damn, searched my name and someone else is missing out on 50K.

  • Im glad this may help someone, it didnt help me or my family, but was worth a shot
