Accomodation in Queenstown, NZ

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone would happen to know some good places for accommodation for 4 people in Queenstown, New Zealand in August. Any deals out there? I'm a member at TravelZoo and have a look at TripAdvisor, but am wanting to know where else I can find a deal for all of us four?

Thanks!

What sort of budget are you after? Do you want to stay walking distance to town, or dont mind driving and get a nice holiday house bit further out with amazing views?

    • Having never been there before, I hadn't really thought about in town vs out of town. I'd have to ask the troops. I have been looking on Wotif and the likes at The Oaks - for 4 people we were looking at around the NZ$350 per night. We're after 3 nights, so that can add up!

Have a look at Bumbles backpackers, worked out about $36 pp, per night for me and 3 mates. Have stayed there back in 2009, and going again this season. Only issue is that they have a 7 night max stay. They have 5 or 6 person dorms, so we booked a 5 person room for 4 of us, so we got the whole room to ourselves :)

  • Thanks for the replies - I forgot to mention that it's one of the girls birthday so they want something pretty decent - i.e - not a backpackers. There is a couple and two individuals as the group, so 2-3 bedrooms are required. Thanks!

Stayed here in December. Got a massive 3 bedroom apartment/townhouse for NZD$355/night for 3 nights. Very comfortable for a family of 8 adults.

    • That place looks pretty good - you must have got a special rate as my dates are coming up at NZ$500/night :(

Found them via this link. Prices they provided were significantly lower than their website.

Harder to find rental houses for 4 people (usually 6-8 people houses), but they are great value and you can get soem really good ones on the hill overlooking the lake. Since most people hire cars, driving into town (5mins or less) is pretty sweet. Else, The Oaks and all its other sister sites are generally very good! Stayed in an Oaks Penthouse and it was marvelous. spa on the balcony right near the lake watching the sunset every evening. Defenitely spend up in this down especially for a 3 night day

    • Yes, we also have a hire car organised - thanks for your advice - might wait a bit longer to book the Oaks in case any specials pop up.

lomond lodge is where i'm staying this ski season. Price and location seem reasonable and decent tripadvisor rating.http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g255122-d255620-Reviews-Lomond_Lodge-Queenstown_South_Island.html

    • Thanks - will check it out :)

  • Thanks everyone for their input - we managed to get into the Alta Apartments for NZD$390/night. Highly looking forward to it!
