Car Roof Headliner Repair in QLD - DIY or Professional (2007 Hatchback)

Hi,

After some advice. Have a 2007 hatchback (no sunroof) where the current roof headliner fabric has started sagging. Shall I attempt to repair it myself or get it done by the pro's? Cheapest quote so far are around $170-$250 ($170 from a company called RSS Care Enterprises located in Yeerongpilly found their ad on Gumtree).

The fabric material itself is around $35/meter from some of the online stores plus additional cost for the adhesive & shipping.

Thought I'd post on here to see if anyone has recommendations on places to get this repaired.

Thanks!

  • Easy/quick: DIY, use a few staples or some thumb tacks. Won’t look the best, but it will work.

Medium/possibly not cheap: DIY, get onto a wrecker, buy a good head lining and swap it out yourself. Or, put your car model into YouTube and “replace head liner” and there may be a good video on there showing you how to do it. It won’t look like a professional job, but it might come up ok.

Easy/may be most expensive: If you want it to look like original, get it to a trimmer. Depending on the car and the size/complexity or removing and reinstalling the headlining, you will be looking at $150~$600 on average.

    • Thanks pegaxs! I'm leaning towards the $170 option getting it done by the pro's as the materials itself are ending up costing around $100.

  • It’s a 2007. How much life is left in it, is it in good condition and how long do you plan to keep it? The better the condition or longer you will keep it he more you should invest in the repair.

I’d be going DIY, but then I’d enjoy the challenge of a new skill to learn and don’t like throwing money at an old car. .

    • It's in very good condition both mechanically & cosmetically - car doesn't get used often hence has very low km's around 60,000. I don't change cars often hence planning on keeping it for another few years.

  • +2

Pay someone, it's an absolutely horrible job to do. Old breaking down foam, contact adhesive, yuk.

    • Agreed, I removed a little bit of the fabric to see how bad the foam condition is underneath and it is like fine dust up there falling on your face etc.

  • Try RACQ tech services for advice.
If it's a good 12 yr old car I would give it to the pro's and spend $170.
It's not a good look having the hood lining flapping around your ears.
    Good Luck.

    • Yeah, it's just annoying as it hits the top of my head/hair. The cloth itself has sagged is some of the spots only (one of which being near the right shoulder of the drivers seat hence the annoyance of it hitting my head).

  • I’m pretty sure I got these guys to do my Astra years ago. They did a great job and it’s money well spent.

    • Thanks, I came across their ad on Gumtree and was trying to find reviews by previous customers.
Did they mach the fabric colour/texture to the original one or was it slightly different?

      • I honestly cant remember. It was about 5 years ago. I know I was happy with it though.
