Review from MoM:

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose: Fresh with notes of damp hay and soft, malty cereal notes. A touch of peat with gentle oak and arak with blossom tones.

Palate: Thick and full with more cereal, this time a barley fudge sweetness creeps in with creamy smoothness and a touch of aniseed.

Finish: Long with peppy winter spice.

Edit: I managed to get one by adding the product from the search page

  • ditto SA

  • Shows available for collection at local store in Brisbane. But not for delivery. Bought🍷

    • Ready for collection🎉

  • Not sure why it’s marked as out of stock , I can still add to cart in VIC

    • Not available for delivery. May not be available at all stores. C&C works if available.
Reported it as in stock - now updated.

  • Not available for delivery for me but no problems ordering C&C

  • click and collect worked for me in VIC

wonder if it will be a price error with cancellation email

    • Mine is ready to collect

      • So is mine👍 But store just closed.

      • i got the ready email too,

is the shop even open now??

  • Same mine ready for cc

  • +1

I think the earlier person details are getting auto populated.

    • Can see this too. Unsure if payment is prepopulated (no stock). A bit concerning.

  • No price match from Uncle Dan?

  • Product unavailable on website for me.

  • +1 for a great price. Not to my taste, so I'll leave it for others to enjoy (not very OzBaragin of me…)

  • +23

A bit concerned that "checkout as guest" is prepopulating with SOMEONE ELSE'S personal information and address (Bruce from QLD, full address and quantity). Concerned over payment privacy. If you choose an item and checkout as guest - it shows the details of who previously purchased that item online. Unsure of payment details prepopulating.

Ordered before, now concerned. Neg for me.

    • +13

To whoever negged this comment… It's a legitimate concern. I sent Vintage Cellars a screenshot. Regardless of the transaction process (same item, same store, etc) it's a very valid reason to neg the deal. The merchant isn't storing personal data properly, albeit the deal is great.

    • -6

That is a truly bizarre error if that's the case. It would be really difficult to accidentally do that given the way that 99.999% of checkouts work, and it's much more likely that it's something on your end.

      • +4

I was able to emulate it twice on my phone using my home WiFi, someone else also commented about this issue earlier above. How could it be "my end"?

        • +4

Tested on my phone using Chrome and Opera. It is not auto-populating for me

          • @Sleepycat3: That's good to hear! Perhaps been fixed, or some very specific issue (item, qty, store etc). Others clearly had same problem so I'm curious

        • +1

It’s possible the server might have issued you and Bruce the same “state” key, eg session ID so both you and he were updating the same blobs of information at the server end. It shouldn’t happen. Was there anyone other than Bruce from QLD?

          • @djsherly: Seems issue occurred for several people when they accessed site from Deal link & used Guest checkout. Worrying!

Would be of interest if more than 1 previous purchaser details were left.
But who would input their details after seeing Bruce from Qld's left from previous purchase😱

Unfortunately both commenters about the issue don't give location to back up your State key theory.

          • +1

@djsherly: Contacted vasanth240 - first to report issue.
            Location: NSW
Different name seen in Guest checkout.

So at least 2 people's details have been shared without authority😱

            • +1

@INFIDEL: I am in QLD as Bruce was, approx 30km from each other. Street number, phone email etc were all populated with his info

              • @dantione: Which store? Did street name begin with B & #17? I might know Bruce from Qld.

              • @dantione: If you have the details, might be a good idea to contact the person to let them know - so they can also get up Vintage Cellars👍

                • +1

@INFIDEL: Yep it was your info, I took a screenshot to send to them

                  • @dantione: Thanks for confirming & sending the screenshot😱

I blocked my payment method as soon as I read your comment. Still worrying.

They haven't replied to my emailed complaint in over 24 hrs. I'll ring in the morning to demand they investigate & act.

Likely a breach of the Privacy Act (disclosing personal information) - so they have to deal with it promptly.

                    • @INFIDEL: Absolutely. To rub salt in the wound - they tried to cancel my order because of "stock issues"

                      • @dantione: Saw that😭 Did you get any?
Hopefully they'll restock & honour our orders 🙏

Stock was running out fast around Brisbane when I ordered again after you. Also likely stock levels weren't accurate.

My OOS cancellation was for my second bottle at different store. I sampled the first Jura to remember if I liked it🍷 Was going to cancel that order if I didn't.

Picked up one from DM cheaper, which was lucky. So have 2 bottles.

                      • @dantione: Stock issue for my order - was staff failed to fully process order in store. Now found & ready for pickup!
                        Check with store!

                  • @dantione: Finally got through to VC - taking the matter seriously after I complained it was a breach of the Privacy Act.

Pointed out this could be very bad for their business if people can't trust their details to be secure.

IT section contacted as high priority investigation.

Shared this major issue with VC with Mods.

                    Thanks for your help👍
                    I need a drink🍷

                    • @INFIDEL: This is pretty horrendous web dev. My original negged-into-oblivion comment still stands - as it was definitely more likely to be client-side than not at the time - but obviously this was not the case. Glad they are at least saying they're taking steps. I would be pushing for some compensation as this is almost certainly in breach of regulatory requirements with personal data and payment card data (i.e. Privacy Act, PCIDSS) and would carry some pretty hefty fines from the government, not to mention making them an extremely easy civil target.

                      • @johnno07: Agree.
No one should be subjected to this type of Privacy breach! As I had just had a family member die, ordered a bottle to help ease the loss & celebrate their life - this was the last thing I wanted to happen😱

(I've won an out of court settlement as compensation after a lesser issue with a company. In that case there was no precedent to my court action. I was supported by a government body as it was of public interest.)

I think it was just the suggestion the issue was an end user error that attracted the negs in your comment.
I would not have believed it possible for a site to disclose customer details - but when I read it was my details…

Will update as VC respond. The staff member was shocked this had happened.

                      • @johnno07: How was it more likely to be client side? How is a computer meant to suddenly generate shipping details that are not those of its user? It was significantly more likely to be server side, and that's why your comment was down-voted.

                        • -1

@puffinfresh: Because checkouts are so cookie-cutter, and basic session management is so easy to do securely, that it was more likely something in the user's local environment filling it out.

                  • @dantione: [UPDATE ON PERSONAL PRIVACY BREACH]
Received response from Coles Liquor Customer Service Manager.

They admit to the breach & are investigating.

They claim only my name & delivery address was divulged!

They say they take customer privacy seriously. And only offer an apology! Yes, sure!

                    • @INFIDEL: Received Registered letter - of apology. Seems Coles Liquor management are taking this breach of the Privacy Act seriously.

        Major issue with retailer

      • +6

I think such a security breach (sharing of previous customer personal information) on their ordering / payment system is a Major issue with retailer!

        • +2

          Not just a major issue.
It is a serious privacy breach.

Thanks OP for raising this. I didn't order due to this.

          • @m k d: 2 people reported this issue.
Checked with vasanth240 - first to report issue.
Saw different name in Guest checkout.

At least 2 people's details have been shared without authority😱

A privacy breach at the very least!!

    • So only you got this issue.

      Operator error for sure

      • +1

So only you got this issue.

        Wrong!
Comments show at least 2 people experienced this same security breach - showing previous customer private details when checking out as Guest. See comment 50 minutes before comment by aryan12 about same issue!
Vintage Cellars site was very flakey for me last night.

That makes it a serious issue with site, not just Operator error for sure!!

Like to explain how another purchaser's personal details show on next purchasers order - by Operator error?? That would be more worrying than a glitch in system😱

You got enough negs earlier for making out this was not a serious issue deserving a neg😱

Would you want your personal details shared with following purchasers?? Apparently that doesn't bother you😱

Only reason I didn't neg deal (despite great price) - already upvoted so could only revoke. Will be complaining to VC, directing them to the above complaints.

Definitely a privacy breach at the very least!!

Many Ozbargainers refuse to give less details for deals, worried what might happen to their details. This was far worse!!

How can you maintain a privacy breach in an order / payment site is not an issue of serious concern??

        • +1

I had the same issue using an iPhone to order.

Mr Tran from Yarraville, your order should arrive just before mine.

          • @alienurbanite: Thanks for that update - it just gets worse😱
            What time was that?

      • +1

I sent Vintage Cellars a strongly worded email about breaches of customer privacy & possibly security issues.

Included comments from here about previous customer's personal details visible to subsequent users of Guest checkout, plus link to this Deal.

        No response yet.

        Wouldn't trust Vintage Cellars site!
(Price matched at DM for $1 less & used Wish eGift card for a much better deal!)

This issue should have a wider audience than just here! Will post on social media to warn others.

This may be a breach under the Privacy Act
As a business owner, you have the responsibility to:
        Protect personal information from:
        unauthorised access
        disclosure.

        • No response from Vintage Cellars in over 24 hours👎

      • VC conducting a high priority investigation into this serious disclosure of customer information.

This was definitely is a Major issue with retailer worthy of many more negs!

      • About time you admitted you were absolutely WRONG!
Vintage Cellars have admitted the serious Privacy Breach occurred

        • You sound like my wife

          • @chumlee: Wise woman!
I think you know what you sound like to me… Denying what happened!

My personal information was shared with other customers by a faulty order / customer payment system.

Other customers' privacy was also breached.

Coles Liquor / Vintage Cellars have admitted to that breach of the Privacy Act in a letter to me.
They included a copy of aryan12's screenshot.

            • -1

@INFIDEL: I will lend you my phone so you can call someone who cares

              • @chumlee: I'd only smash it😠
(My abusive response to your BS would just be taken down.)

Your repeated defence of Vintage Cellars in disclosing customer data in breach of the Privacy Act - unbelievable & unforgivable.

Hidden your comments as not worthy of ever reading - recommended by Mod

                • @INFIDEL: Lol

Get over it. More important things in life to worry about

  • Haven't yet tried Jura 10 but will soon at this price, without expecting ~$85 value. Googled some reviews and this bloke really didn't like it https://malt-review.com/2019/01/25/jura-10-year-old/ 3/10! - … there are so many other whiskies available that offer a greater range of value and flavour.

    • You left out an important point of that review… At this price point there are so many other whiskies available that offer a greater range of value and flavour. Other reviewers were kinder.

While this is not a "great" whiskey, it is quite drinkable At this price point - nearly half price. Wouldn't buy at $86 as would buy a better drop for a little more!
But would disappoint true whiskey lovers.

I snapped up a bottle & another cheaper price matched at DM. Enjoying it with breakfast😉

  • no stock in victoria :-(

  • Green for delivery on the page and then been told none available for delivery in the checkout page is a really shit customer experience.

  • Everything on their site is showing as unavailable for me right now…

  • Sold out in Brisbane

  • Jura Superstition (not this one) is what I would recommend to someone if they wanted to try a single malt for the first time. I finished a bottle recently and the whole time I was thinking, this is what I would describe whisky as if someone asked me what whisky tasted like.

    • +2

10 years ago, I was in Queenstown and picked up Jura Superstition for NZD 20 each at the airport as it was on special. It was my first scotch outside of JW and Glenfiddich! It has been a slippery slope since!

    • +3

Really? You wouldn't just describe it as "Thick and full with more cereal, this time a barley fudge sweetness creeps in with creamy smoothness and a touch of aniseed"? :P

      • Geez those notes go a bit far sometimes hey

  • no stock melbourne south east

  • +1

    Just Price matched @DM $46.99🎉
    DM receipt
    (Holland Park, Brisbane)
As VC photo doesn't match current stock on DM, showed my purchased bottle (same as store stock) & receipt.

    Ended up being FREE!
Paid with eGift card (Woolies Mobile gave me $60 after issues with 2 x FREE $30 SIM from Deal last year!)

Good value at this price, but not a great whiskey. Little taste remains after a small sample in snifter glass.

    • so you're saying if i go in to Dan Murphy's tonight and show them the link with $47.99 price at VC they won't match it because VC stocks are low or unavailable?

      • I was surprised how easy it was👍
Store did not check stock levels - just viewed VC site, said a few expletives, & reduced price without any issue.

Worth a try, using the DM receipt (I uploaded) as proof.
Don't forget to pay with discounted Wish eGift Cards.

  • Showing $87.99 in the check out here.

  • Expired!
    No results found for:
    Jura 10Yo Scotch Whisky 700Ml

(I can't report as had corrected the incorrectly reported "Out of Stock" when deal first posted - sent a TWAM)

    No more price matching @DM😢

Just received email that order placed on 3/7 has been cancelled due to lack of stock😢
Never received ready to pickup SMS.

    • Replied that I'll wait until they restock😉

      • +1

        Same here

        • Check for any messages to collect - just received mine!

          Rang the store.
My bottle has been waiting to be collected since early on 4th!
But the update to the order as fulfilled & the message to collect hadn't happened.
Seems they had a few too many orders for the store staff to fully process. So received incorrect out of stock email. Staff member saw the bottle waiting while processing another order today.
He apologised. But I was just happy for another bottle🍷

          Ring the store!

      • VC email: says no stock so no "raincheck" for new stock.

        • UPDATE: Just received SMS from store - bottle of Jura waiting to be collected🎉

  • Managed to pick up mine click and collect today. I asked the guy in store if he had any more stock and exclaimed "No! It was a pricing error! Big mistake…" so those of us who managed to get a bottle (even price matching at DM) have done well :-)

    • Enjoy🍷

Usually store staff aren't told why a product has been reduced, so may jump to their own conclusion when it quickly sells out at that price.

Store manager I spoke to did not think it was a pricing error, but there were none left after orders filled.

Pricing error would normally be corrected & lead to cancellation & refunds, which did not happen.

I ordered a second bottle late on 3/7 but received out of stock email today. Had picked up cheaper @DM.

All stock has been sold, no longer listed on site at any price.

  • Just picked up my bottle and yes the manager said it was a pricing error.
It was meant to be $4 off, not $40. LOL

  • Picked up mine today

    Very happy

  • Order from July 3rd dispatched today. Patience prevails!
