Right Time to Build a PC?

Hello guys, Is this is the right time to build a new pc? Should i wait for zen 3? How are the temps on amd cpus like and what about the temps in summer. I built/had mostly intel cpus and nvidia gpus as far as i can remember.

Should i wait for intel to drop prices around %15 and nvidia on 2070 and 2080?

You can easily overthink the timing because there's always something better "coming soon".
Just read around a bit and you can adjust to the ups and downs, like RAM and SSDs dropping in price a lot in the past year.

    • ya ssd price went down for sure. I dont need much storage though. what do u think about generic brand rams? will they hold up good? i saw few on amazon cheaper than corsair and other brands

  • Not Recommended.
Wait until early November 2019, get the pre-Xmas bargains. This goes for local Aussie/eBay sales, and Importing from USA.
Also, by that time you should have the release of the RTX Super cards, and the AMD RX-Navi cards as well.
Plus, you also get the release of Zen2/Ryzen-3000 CPUs.
….and you get enough time to read up the reviews about which Monitor, Case, Motherboard, CPU, GPU, and RAM to get.

(and if worse comes to worse, you end up building an older system simply because the Used Market prices have crashed with the new stuff).

    • i need it now lol, my question is should i wait for amd zen 3, nvidia super cards and intel price drop or should i start buying stuff right now

You can NOT buy parts for the Ryzen 3000 CPU, Motherboard, Nvidia RTX-Super, or the AMD RX-Navi cards now. So if you need a PC now, you're limited to going with a Ryzen 2000 or i9-9900k build, and the "standard" RTX or Vega cards. If the question is choosing between what you can build now, versus what you can build in 5 weeks, then YES absolutely wait for it.

Intel price drop will happen, but it won't happen until another 6-12 months, just because its Intel.

Your smartest move is to (probably) get a Ryzen r7-3700, with an ASRock X570 motherboard, and an RTX 2060-Super…
….but in Early November. That means WAIT, don't build now.

If you wait for the professional reviews to come out, you can find out which RAM speeds, RAM amounts are best to pair with Ryzen-3000. And if there are any issues with certain M.2 SSD's on the architecture. So if you wait a little while, you can compile a list of specific parts to target, and snipe them when the deals rollout, like I said, during the annual tech sale in Early November (also happens around Mid April as well, but that has passed already).

If you "need it now", wouldn't the right time to build it be … now?

Is this is the right time to build a new pc?

If you need it now then get it now. There's always new tech/generation/model coming out. By the time manufacturers drop their prices, it could be they're releasing new models. Someone else will again say to wait for that new model.
Are you gonna wait forever? Is $ an issue? YOU decide if it's the right time.

    • just want to wait for nvidia 2080/2070 and intel price drops thats all. not sure how much drop can we see here in aus.

I usually wait till after lunch but before i have to start making dinner

    • That's cutting it close. I'm usually interrupted by several screaming children in that time period.

After bedtime means you can spend the eight minutes putting the hardware together, and then until 4am installing drivers and Windows Updates.

    • I've done it during the process of making dinner, the dinner didn't turn out that well I had forgot about it while thinking about my purchase decision, zz

If you needa build soon, wait a week for Navi and Ryzen 3k.

If you don't, wait for an eBay 20% coupon around that Sept/Oct period (or later). So you can have Ryzen 3k and Navi AIB cards/Turing "Super" at better prices.

  • Like others have said just before amd's new cpu and gpu release is the worst time to buy. Even if you choose intel/nvidia they will likely respond with price cut.

  • Are you tech savvy regarding PC builds? Like can you build and diagnose from scratch?

If so then buy a second hand PC off Gumtree and save heaps.

I am sure that there will be a few ads where a seller has recently purchased a late spec'd PC form a store, sat there for a few months and not into it/gaming anymore and wants to flog it off.

    Cheers

    • Yes i am, i built my last pc in 2013 with i7 3700k and evga gtx 680 ti classified version (it was the fastest at that time) i want to build new one instead of buying a used one according to my needs.
