$15 Wi-Fi Light Bulb Kmart - Cheaper Price?

I think Kmart have reduced the price on the Mirabella Genio Wi-Fi Dim Bulb. They are now $15, which I think is down from $20.

I wouldn't call this a bargain, but it is nice to see the price coming down.

Also they have reduced the price on the Mirabella Genio Wi-Fi 1 USB Adaptor down to $19.50 from $29. Still more expensive than the Brilliant equivalent at Bunnings at $15.

The Tunable bulb (which is white and has adjustable color temp range) has dropped from $25 to $20 as well.

quality of these bulbs can be hit / miss, out of the 7 bulbs I own 2 of the more expensive ones have failed after 3 months. Guess that's why they are much cheaper than Philips and even Yeelight.

I've never noticed that are also motion sensors, door or window opening sensors, LED light strips and universal IR controllers until now.

    • Has anyone tried the Universal IR Controller?

      • The problem I have found with IR Controllers in general is that, with the exception of a few devices, not all functions seem to be supported.

For example Panasonic Air conditioners seem to have at least four IR protocols in use. Now some or all of them might have the same codes for the basic functions, once you move to pan/tilt of the fan direction or such the Powerful/Quiet mode then you have troubles.

This is based on the Broadlink and ESP-Easy firmware for ESP8266.

        • Thanks not a bargain. For basic on/off of TV and aircon, and changing TV channels is the Broadlink okay?

          • @Master Bates: You should be fine. Note that the Broadlink are not ESP8266 based. If I remember correctly it was a Realtek chipset.

            • @whats up skip: Any idea whether this can perform Foxtel remote commands? Couldn't get my Broadlink RM mini 3 to work with Foxtel so it's gathered dust for a few years.

              • @Qbagger: Sorry no experience with Foxtel remotes. Do you know if they work with any other 3rd party IR remotes?

    • I've never noticed that are also motion sensors(kmart.com.au), door or window opening sensors(kmart.com.au), LED light strips(kmart.com.au) and universal IR controllers(kmart.com.au) until now.

They are new. They were released last week. I picked up the motion sensors but can't seem to get tuya-convert to work with them. I think they have the updated firmware.

Are the motion sensors and door sensors actually based on the ESP8266 family of micro controllers?

I was surprised that I couldn't find any WiFi door sensors online, yet we have them in Kmart.

I was also surprised that the WiFi motion sensors were relatively competitively priced. The best I could was about A$20 delivered on AliExpress. I have no idea on the comparative quality.

One question about the WiFi sensor, does it send a warning when the battery is low?
Alternatively can you send a status request? The later wouldn't be as good.

        • I'm assuming it's Tuya (and ESP8266), but that's just because the rest of the Mirabella stuff is.

This page shows a similar Tuya device that will "send reminder when low power"

I had previously read that battery-powered ESP8266 motion sensors and switches are really slow because they have to wake up and connect to the wifi after being triggered, which means it takes several seconds before anything happens. I'm curious to know if this is the case with these.

          • @mesteken: All battery powered WiFi devices would need to be in a sleep mode almost all the time. The power consumption of WiFi is too high to run continuously for weeks on end. These devices shut down the ESP8266 to deep sleep mode and run just the motion sensor all the time.

    • Did Kmart replace the bulbs under warranty?

Even if these bulbs aren't great quality, it does put downward price pressure on the more expensive ones.
