I don't like their practice of using large pictures depicting a Class 4 card and then stating it is class 2 in size 8 font in the details.

This particular product doesn't specify in the description and I'm going to assume its a class 2.

    • where does it say that?

    • Bought one a couple of months back (same sort of deal from the same guys) for my Tab - received a Class 4.
Bought one late last year for my Desire - Class 2.

      Both SanDisk 16GB MicroSD
      So don't know….

      • If their advertised page showed a Class 4 card and there is no mention of the transfer rate and you received a Class 2 card, you're entitled to a full refund under the Goods Description Acts. (Make sure you capture the screen picture and save it).

        Confusingly, this one says:
"High speed USB 2.0 compatible transfer rates"

AFAIK USB 2.0 has an effective rate of 40MBps and a Class 6 SDHC is only rated at 20MBps.

          "Goods Description Acts"

Great legal advice! Referring to a non-existant act.

        • +2

Being pedantic about the actual name of the act doesn't change consumers' statutory rights, however:

          http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nsw/consol_act/soga192312…

        • +1

USB 2.0 is compatible with USB 1.0 and therefore a card with a transfer rate of 1.5 MBps is still USB 2.0 compatible. So that doesn't really help.

      • Back when I bought it and received the Class 2 card, the picture on show was Class 2.
I believe the picture was stil lClass 2 when I bought and received the Class 4 card, although I'm not certain anymore. All I remember is I was pleasantly surprised I got a Class 4 card.

Given that for 21cents extra they are selling it on ebay as Class 4 Im guessing its Class 4. The 21cents is likely to cover ebay fee's. If you arent convinced and you actually want to buy this (which you probably don't) spend the extra 21cents.. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190358…

      • +1

Bought from them thru eBay and I can confirm they are genuine and Class 4. Works great in my SGS.

  • +3

Why is it, every single time, someone has to do this whole Class 2/4 thing?

    • +4

because class 2 is inferior compared to class 4…

      • +3

No it isn't for Sandisk 16GB's. You actually DO want a Class 2 16GB over a Class 4…
        http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1582172

Too bad they aren't making the old Class 2 cards anymore.

        • +1

Yep, this is actually discussed on the Sandisk forums somewhere too…and noted ad nauseam on OzB…I'm far too lazy to look for the references though! ;)

    • +8

      @Stumo
"Why is it, every single time, someone has to do this whole Class 2/4 thing?"

'Cause it's a Class society in the SDHC world. Those in the higher classes can run rings around those in the lower classes.

And then there are those in the upwardly mobile AVHD world who think that anything below class 4 are the Untouchables and should remain (static) in their station.

    • +9

I like to know exactly what I'm getting.

    • +1

because ozbargain is expanding, everyday we have new members that have same question!

      • +1

We also have a couple of long-time members here asking the same question that's been answered at least three times to my knowledge…what's their excuse??? ;)

        • +1

no idea, i know last time the deal popped up, i was answering the question. and for previous times too. and like you, i cbb linking them to my explanation:P

  • Still cheapest price around by a decent margin regardless of the class.

    • class matters, would you buy a lower class car for the same price as the higher one?

  • I wish their 32GB cards were slightly cheaper!

  • Hmm… This one seems to be Class 4 but with an adapter: $27.95 incl. shipping. Not sure if I might be missing something ~

    http://www.shoppingsquare.com.au/p_83543_Sandisk_16GB_MicroS…

  • OK I just bought one off these chumps, how long does delivery take?

I will update this thread when I receive the package and find out what class it really is…

EDIT: BTW, when checking out in Paypal I noticed that these guys are actually owned by APUS, a familar sight for those who use Staticice. If this is common knowledge I apologise, but I thought it was quite interesting.

  • FYI guys. Class has little to do with read speeds so anyone planning on using this with a DS flash cart or android tab etc should note this, there are actually a couple of sites that compare speeds so perhaps google first. I found that this inparticular model is very slow (around 8mb per second) compared to sandisk ultra mobile which put out about double that speed.
Tldr: these are not much good for flash carts or androids if you plan to runs apps from it, fine for storage though.

    • Whirlpool seems to think differently…

      • I have a couple of each cards for my sons DS and my 3DS, I actually ran my own tests using a program recommended on gbatemp using the same USB adapter and port. I found that a 3 year old class 2 ultra far out-performed a brand new standard class 4 sandisk microSDHC. I ran the tests because I noticed considerable lag on the new cards on many DS games.

Thought you might be wondering why these SanDisk cards are being heavily discounted, read their performance benchmark here:

    • +4

Ummm … But that is a really old article about a 4GB Class 2 SD card. Not the same thing as the topic of this thread, which is a 16Gb Class 16 MicroSD card. But at least the brand matches.

      • Lol yeah I was scrolling for a while looking for the relevance… then had to recheck coz I thought I missed it.

      • +1

Did I miss something? This card is not class 16!

    • +1

Not really, that article is very old (2007), ie. $100 for a 4GB no name card! and its SDHC not microSDHC. I doubt it has anything to do with these microSD cards being discounted some 4 years later.

      EDIT: Beaten

      • +3

Maybe the article's not that old, perhaps they bought it off COTD years ago & it only just arrived! :p

  • You can get a 16GB class 4 from eBay for less than $25.

  • too much confusion, im just going to wait for the mobileciti deal.

    • mobileciti is 32gb normal SD not microsd though D:

      • MobileCiti should bring a micro deal out soon.. If you read all the comments in their posts you can clearly see the demand. And in fact shoppingsuares "deals" have been done to death IMO lol. Though will admit not having seen one for a bit until now.

    • +1

Me too lol. And damn small iPod touch screens I accidentally neg ur comment instead of pos which I wanted! :s

  • got one - thanks

  • +1
    • While every attempt is made to ensure the information provided on this page is accurate, specifications change from time to time and we are not liable

    ^lol

    • Makes you wonder how a disclaimer like that will hold up in court against the Sales/Description Act (or whatever its called).

      • To be honest, that would pertain more to statistical minutiae surrounding products that manufacturers are likely to change unbeknownst to the distributor, and any smart retailer would have a similar disclaimer.

It would never go that far, FT or small claims would be as much as you'd ever need in cases like this!

That said, I've purchased off these guys many times, and they're fair dinkum…I would recommend them! :)

  • I am about to place an order of Sandisk CF card, I need it urgently. But the item is not available for next business day delivery.
I am living in Redfern, a few blocks away from Alexandria!
Any one done a pick-up before?
anyone knows their contact phone number?
    any help is appreciated.

  • far out, people saying class 2 is better and some saying class 4 is better - confusing

anyway i think i might buy this for my samsung galaxy tab with this - as long as it saves stuff to the card, access it and i don't see any slowness of this, then i'll be happy

    • As long as you are only using it for storage and not for actually running your system or apps from then this is fine no matter the speed. Class is more to do with write speed than read speed. The older class 2 models were better in my experience than these new class 4.

      • AFAIK Sandisk don't make any Class 2 cards anymore anyway…I could be wrong though, just a recollection…any you get will be old stock, and if you're lucky enough to get the really old (good) stock then you're cheering! :)

        • Are you saying that SanDisk's old Class 2 cards are better than their new Class 4? Have they changed to using inferior components now?

        • +1

Yep, that seems to be the general consensus. There's even mention of it on the Sandisk support forums! They didn't use the term 'inferior' though, IIRC they had a nice PC term for exactly the same thing though! ;)

That said, I bought two of these in the last SS deal at the same price & they've been fine in my SGT & phone! :)

      • well i'd like to install some apps on the storage card because its filling up my internal memory

        • I'd look elsewhere then, Kingston has a great read speed.

        • any recommendations or simply just go on ebay find kingston micro sd 16gb?

        • +2

Any Kingston as long as you can be sure it's real. I'd search http://staticice.com.au instead of eBay, so many fakes on eBay.

  • Ok im not tech savvy but can someone explain why you cant run applications from the card i have a ZTE tab. ?

    • From this card or cards in general?

      • From this card as some here have said their no good for running apps from.I dont understand can someone give advice because id really like to replace the 2gig one that came with the tab if its what i need.Tx

        • +1

If you read through a bit it's been explained a couple of times, read speed is low on these cards. That means when your device tries to read data it lags a little, no problem for some apps but can be very problematic for many others.

  • Clixgalore deep link - is this a standard OzB thing?

  • found 4 x 8gb micro sd's at work today !

  • +1

    UPDATE:

Received my card; it's Class 4, exactly as the picture shows.

It was also OEM so no packaging.

  • The price is $22.94 now.

    • yes but not including delivery sunshine, which for example to sydney metro is $5.95 extra.
