Small Wedding 20 People, Venues in Sydney

Any suggestions on where to have a small wedding in Sydney, max. 20 people?

Somewhere with a nice view, eg Sydney harbour or other waterfronts. Most venues I have made enquires with want at least 100 people. Smaller venues want 50 or more people.

Wedding ceremony and reception (preferably a lunch) don’t have to be at the same location. Have thought about having a ceremony in a park, but worried about wet weather spoiling it.

Quay Restaurant's Upper Tower accommodates up to 20 guests.

Aria Restaurant's Harbour Room accommodates up to 27 guests.

Bennelong Restaurant's The Circle accommodates up to 28 guests.

All with great views of the harbour and award winning catering, and with top price tags attached. The biggest problem is whether you can secure the venue at a day you want.

    • All nice venues. Not sure fine dining would suit family though… they are the type who would prefer to be well fed if you know what I mean.

Observatory hotel or whatever it is called now. We had about 30 people and booked a private room for the 3 course.

Worked out well as we got married in one of the local churches, took some pics up there on the hill before moving in for the reception and staying in for the night.

It was all reasonably priced as we really didn't want to go OTT or spend too much.

    • I think it’s called The Langham now. It looks really nice!

Yep. That's it. They really were accommodating in what we wanted to achieve. This was back in 2012.

Deckhouse in Woolwich. The upper deck is great for smaller parties. I guess it all depends on your budget.

You can always seat 20 and do a bit of whale watching at any fast food venue.

Sails on Lavender Bay has a private dining room that will fix max 20. The views are amazing. I had mine here.

Banjo Paterson cottage, Gladesville. You can have the ceremony in their garden.

Ripples Chowder Bay has good food and views. Not sure about prices due to a lot of people. In fact I think a lot of places charge more if a lot of people.

Can't organise a caterer and go to a park?

The balcony bar at The Harbour View hotel would hold 20 and you can book it. Put a tab on the bar. They have a kitchen.

You don't say if it's day or night; weekend or week day.

I hired a local fancy restaurant for our reception but it was a breakfast from 9.30-12.00 (then they opened for lunch) with an open bar and finger food. We all buggered off to my place after that.

Or rent a suite at a good hotel and organise catering.

Depends whether you want people to drive there or get public transport…

  • Most likely lunch on a weekend.
    Thanks for the suggestions

Private boat charter. You can organise your own caterer to be onboard.

There are lovely parks/gardens in the North Shore (including with separate restaurants) that will cater for small groups.

    • I'll have to research the area. We're from the South, was hoping to keep things around CBD harbour. North Shore not too far though, just over the bridge!
