LG V30+ Vs LG G7?

Hey guys I'm trying to decide between these 2 phones LG V30+ vs LG G7. I'm happy to pay the $100 increase for the G7 if its worth the SD 845 speed bump. How are the main back cameras for both?

Given that the LG V30+ is an older phone with an older battery, would it make the battery lifespan shorter? Has anyone replaced the LG V30 or LG G7 battery successfully share the cost/ease of replacement?

When is the best time to get the LG V30+ or LG G7 if I can wait till the end of the year? Ta :)

The LG G7 was the second slowest (QSD 855) phone of 2018.
The LG V30 was a very average contender in the performance department.

The LG V30 had the best battery life of 2017 phones, the LG G7 gets a couple more efficiencies, but the smaller battery and brighter IPS display, overall means its pretty standard and worse than the V30 in battery life.

As for speakers, there's a definite improvement in volume but not quality with the G7. There's no improvement in microphones. There's tiny improvements to the front camera and wide-angle camera. There's a more noticeable improvement in the main/rear camera.

The biggest difference between the two are The Notch, and the sizes: V30 is a 5.48inch phone, the G7 is a 5.21inch phone. It's similar to the difference of the Samsung S10 to the S10 Plus.

Overall, the LG G7 is a side-grade (or a small upgrade) over the V30. So it all comes down to the price and your size preference.

However, I personally would choose the LG V30. Why?
It's cheaper. Great battery life. Has great size. Is modern/decent for now and few more seasons. Plus there's a big difference in Custom Roms:

….I would save that extra $100, you can use them for buying Apps, Accessories, Donating to fellow developers etc etc. Then make a more substantial upgrade to a better optimised 7nm/Cortex A77/5G phone in 2020-2022.

    • Thanks

    • Is lg v40 the best pick amongst the 3?

G7 was costs around $506, now nearing $580.

      V40 costs around $650.

      V30 around $440.

      • I haven't seen much bargains for the V40.
The G7 deals are coming in here and there, but its mostly been the G6 and V30.
There's not much difference going from V30 to G7 or V40. The G6 to V30 main difference is performance and battery life, and I do see it worth the upgrade. But there's a decent difference with the newer LG G8/V50 instead of the G7/V30/V40, the only problem is that they aren't available in Australia, and their availability overseas/grey market is pretty low as well, with no deals around.

And from the prices I usually see, the V30 is easily the better value from the other LG phones. Especially if you factor in the root/Custom Rom venue since LG has a good track record of not updating their phones often and for small window of period.

It's probably best to get the LG V30 and save your money, or get a proper flagship/luxury phone like the Samsung S10+
Almost every phone that gives you good updates (OnePlus, Pixel, iPhone) all demands a substantial price increase, and if my maths is right, you might as well get something cheap-but-decent like the V30 and upgrade every 2 years instead.

I'm upgrading from V20, so V30 is kinda lame upgrade. Should I go for G7 or V40?

          • @[Deactivated]: If you must, then it would make sense to go for a proper upgrade like the LG V50.
Unfortunately the cheapest I've seen was $1,100 and they're typically going for $1,700.
Because of that, I would instead recommend the Samsung S10+ instead for around $950.

It's just so hard to recommend an upgrade for people that have the LG V20 or Samsung Note 4-Exynos, these are the last best phones that had a Removable Battery and Custom Roms. Everything after is sealed, so for such a terrible drawback, I feel like you have to justify it by having it water resistant ("weatherproof"). And that means disregarding 90% of options.

Overall, kind of hard to recommend the G7 or V40, unless its very cheap ($450 or $600 respectively). But yeah, the V40 seems like the better fit to me. Do note, you can find the LG G6 for around $350, and the LG V30 for around $400, if you're thrifty.

            • @Kangal: Impressive response. Thanks a lot.

@Kangal: Grey G7 available for around 400 on eBay. Says locked to t mobile but seller confirms works in Australia, and my mate just got one and it works fine on his Telstra plan.
