Coffee Pods Hacks / Nespresso machine hacks for better tasting coffee

Hi Everyone

I recently purchased a Phillips L'Or Barista Coffee Machine. Like this one:

I've used different pods now, for example pods from Woolies, Vittoria ORO and the provided L'Or coffee pods. Among them, I liked L'Or the best. However, there are so many different types of L'Or pods and I have no idea which ones the best for flat white/ cappuccino.
Also for frothing, I have used A2 milk and quite like it.

Please suggest hacks/ ideas to making different types of barista-like coffee experience using Nespresso machines.

throw away the pod machine and buy decent coffee and an espresso machine

    • Mate, it'll be like throwing away $250 :3 I like it though
Have you used one of these?

yes, I had a nespresso pod machine.

got rid of it and got an espresso machine.

would never go back to pod coffee

Plus, an espresso machine doesnt generate all the plastic waste that pods do.

Plus the cost of pods . 10 pack for $4 minimum.i have 3 or 4 shots a day. A 500gram bag of coffee lasts me 4 weeks. I get it from aldi (dark roast -ground) for $8. The equivalent cost for pods for 4 weeks of coffee would be ~$40.

        p.s. didn't neg you

        • damn. Let's see how long it goes :(
Will look into espresso machine after a year
          Thanks :)

        • Nespresso pods generate aluminium waste

          • @Gandalf the Thrifty: Apparently if your a registered customer you can send them back (to Nespresso) and they recycle them into street seating and other stuff.

            • @Of Aquitaine: Yer but you have to pay for bags to send them back. Alternatively some florist take them, as they use the coffee grounds and presumably recycle the pods.

      • That machine is $139 though.

That's a sunk cost. It shouldn't enter your decision making process about the future.

I've used Sealpod in the past:

    https://www.cremajoe.com.au/products/sealpod-starter-pack?va…

Reusable pods that you can use locally roasted coffee from your favourite café/roaster etc.

I like my coffee at a decent strength (normal nespresso pods are terrible and all the 3rd party ones I went through weren't up to scratch or expensive) so I bought 2 sealpods. I use to fill them up the night before so they were ready to go in the morning. Still in a sealpod (nespresso pod) I think you can only get around 7 grams of coffee in them, so you'll never get that café strength, even though 2 pods were closer.

I ended up buy a nanopresso and a hand grinder eventually. I went through so much nespresso/3rd party capsule stuff over a few years and nothing ever really tasted that good. Only thing I use the nespresso for now is foaming the milk (when it breaks I might upgrade to a real coffee machine).

Good luck! My advice is to move on from nespresso/pod machines as soon as you can!

    • Yeah, everyone is suggesting the same. Looks like I've made a mistake.
I'll probably buy an espresso machine within a year.

      • Try the Sealpod kind of stuff first. That might be good enough for you. It was for me for about 6 months but I have always wanted a stronger coffee after using that nespresso pod machine for about 5 years.

Then do a slow upgrade and use a manual grinder and a nanopresso (with a barista kit) type thing. That'll only set you back $150 combined and you'll get some really good coffee out of it.

We are using Urban Brew coffee pods. A bit cheaper than Nespresso. Online ordering only for Urban Brew which can be a pain if you run out.

I buy Hazelnut flavored sachet 'coffee'.
    Best coffee ever :D

When half price @ Coles - $3~ for 10 sachets

    • I used to buy a whole lot of sachet coffees a year back. Once I tasted a decent coffee from barista, never looked back.
Still have some sachets though. To me, it never tastes the same

      • I do love a barista made coffee, but I'm not one of those people who will only have professionally made coffees. I can't think of the word I want to use to describe those people lol

        • A coffee snob

  • i use a pod machine when I CBF, and i've got a manual grinder/aeropress

  • We just got the Phillips L'Or Barista Coffee Machine too. It says that the l'or pods can be used in the nespresso machines - can I assume that this works the other way around and that nespresso pods will work in the Phillips machine? Asking because I grabbed a sealpod kit and they only mention compatibility with Nespresso machines.

    • It works.. I'm currently using reusable nespresso pods for the machine…
All nespresso-compatible pods works on the machine

  • Have a nespresso but waiting on a Lilet coffee machine.
