Google Home Mini Strange Things Happening

Has any one else experienced strange things happening since installing a google home device in there house?

I setup one from free spotify deal for my mother.. Used her phone to setup. I have not linked my account with the mini and tells me doesn't recognize my voice when ask it things like whats on my calendar.. Totaly synced to her voice.

The only linking is that i use the wifi when there.

So I was 700kms away and my aunty asked me about caravan insurance.. So I had a quick look and gave her a price. Mum said google scared the poop outta her as google just randomly started listing the locations for SGIC and she hadn't asked it anything all day..

Then yesterday..

In the car we where talking about going to an op shop.. We stopped in at 2 along our drive without entering or googling any information about them as knew where they where…

Just get a message from mum.. Are you searching for Op shops as google has just read out the op shops near by..

It definitely reassures me my phone is always listening to me and has linked me to other devices in some kind of web of people i associated with.

I was pretty skeptical about having a google home in the beginning but what does it matter every device u have is listening anyways..

Mine just plays Spotify randomly. And when I stop it, it will wait a bit and start playing again. Thing is possessed.

    • My co-worker has his Spotify automatically log in to a PC here at work (He uses it for store music some days), so I make his spotify do all sorts of fun things while he is out of the office.

If you're logged in anywhere else, it could simply be someone else trying to listen to music on your account and accidentally having it also outputting to your speaker.

  • What phone do you have? My partner and I run Pixel phones, we have a google home (original) at home. Parents run iPhones and they have a mini at theirs. I'm signed into both.
The only weird thing that's happened is when you broadcast a message, it goes to all devices you're signed into

…Mum said google scared the poop outta her…

Not enough fibre in your diet?

Difficulty in dropping the kids off at the pool?

Google Home Mini is now equiped with smart* laxatives.

    *Internet connection required.

The only time my google home devices say anything is when I ask it. Not sure why yours would be giving you search results via the speaker. Might be worth checking settings

Yeah that's a solid no from me. The only things I use Google Home Mini for are playing music for my daughter and home automation. I've never had it read out search results for me ever, prompted or unprompted, as I don't see how search results via voice are any easier to navigate than a search engine (they're not).

So if that has not ever happened to me with 6 of them in the house over the last year all connected to my actual google account that I use all day (I'm in IT, our jobs are powered by google search) I am not sure how that would be happening to your mother. If it was search result driven, it would be rambling on about obscure linux commands or python functions all day in my house.

  • Might have indirectly linked it via your phone? When I ask google something, but my phone and GHM will answer

my phone and GHM will answer

That's odd, it's a known thing that both will listen, but only 1 device should answer

      • Hmm happens about 30% of the time when I say it loud enough for both to listen

  • And I got one each room :)
