Need LED Downlights all around the House

I am planning to change my lights into led downlight.
Not sure if I should get smart downlight that I can change colour but not sure how often will I use this smart feature if I did. So Thinking not to buy so I can save money on lights.
Went to few light shops and the one I like is recessed one with crystals inside costing me around $25.00 with a plug.

Any suggestions on which one should I go for? Smart led downlights or normal dimmable ones?

How much does it cost for usual dimmable downlight? Electrician giving me quote ranging from $25 - $40 per downlight installation only and I have to provide them the lights.

Suggest pls.

Cheers

  • If you are in NSW theere is a government subsidy. It can be as cheap as $3/light for a conversion. I paid $12 installed for a complete unit. Its on the NSW gov't website

I DIY'd my old place. Bought aluminium body LEDs off a QLD seller on eBay. $12 each and changed them myself.

Are your current lights hardwired or plug-ins?

I'd suggest you price off a wholesaler.

$25 is 15m @$100/hr. That's fine if they have to cut out the holes. If they just have to remove the old ones and fit a plug it's slightly excessive but they do have to set-up, clean-up, etc.

$40 is a lot unless you have a difficult installation.

  • Just don't get down lights that you can't change the globes on! My last house had these and when they went the whole light had to be replaced. Only place that stocked them was Masters, fortunately I managed to buy 15 on clearance when they were closing for $10 each! Otherwise they were $75 each.

  • ‘Smart’ lights seem to me to be a gimmick. Whizz bang trickery that’s fun for the first few days then just extra stuff to go wrong.

  • Definitely dimmable. You'd be surprised how freakin' bright some LEDs can be
