ShopBack Requiring Mobile Number for Signups?

I'm new to the cashback game and it seems like ShopBack require a mobile number? How do I get around it if I don't want to be sent spam SMSs? Signed up with Cashrewards which doesn't ask for one which is great.

How do Ozbargainers deal with websites requiring mobile number signups which they may later sell off to spammers? Cheers

The mobile number is used for sending / receiving OTP (one time password) and is a security (authentication) feature. When you draw money from your account, you'll be sent an OTP code via sms.

Same goes for Cashrewards, the number is used for 2FA auth but its optional

You can buy a cheap SIM from your local supermarket (Aldi, Voda) and activate on long expiry if you don't want to give your personal number.

Boost have a 365 day SIM for $5 at Woolies currently.

      • Thanks guys! Zeggie can you post the link for the Boost 365 day SIM for $5?

Also does Boost have free international roaming as I occasionally work overseas in Japan/SE Asia and need to receive SMS OTPs while overseas? Or any other cheap prepaid 365 days sims that fulfils my receiving-SMS only-overseas needs? I buy a cheap prepaid local SIM for calls/data. Cheers

          AldiMobile works.

        • Sounds like you should just use your regular mobile number.

I haven't received any SMS spam from ShopBack as of yet, if that helps.

FYI ShopBack will not allow you to change the mobile number after you have successfully registered an account. Don't use a burner number.
