Pirelli Tyres

Need to buy Pirelli PZER0 295/40ZR21 111Y tyres.

Currently the best brice I can find is $448 per tyre on Tyroola. Find me a bargain or share some tricks.

  • Call Stores - An online tyre shop would never have good value. You would have to add, installation and disposal of old tyres.

    • Ok will do that, but they tend to only go down and match some other price.

      • Don't go to Bob Jane T Mart or Kmart Tyre, they are rip offs. If you are located in Sydney, there are plenty of tyre shops that are independent - for example I get my Tyres from Tyres For Less fairfield for $150 each but those same tyres are $250 up the road, they just seem to do the brand I want cheap. Look for a Pirelli specialist that is independent. At the end of the day its the turnover that gets the retailer discount.

        • thanks man, you definitely know more than I do. I'm in the melbourne area. PReviously cincurato has always been easy, now with the 21 inch its a smaller field.

          • @raiseyoursteaks: I work in the industry and am in Melbourne I’ll check for you at work tomorrow if you like and let you know the price I can source them for if you like.

Any reason why you want this particular tyre?

And as for the earlier comment. Mark ups at some big retailers can be steep but generally tyre wholesale prices are about 10-15% less than the RRP. there really isn’t a lot of profit in the tyre. The money is in the fitting, balancing etc.

            • @jimbobaus: hey there, thanks for that. Came with the car and I'll like to keep using the same type/brand. Albeit getting the best price I can.

              • @raiseyoursteaks: So checking out Pirelli's pricing,

Here is the wholesale price (shhhh do not tell anyone… proceeds to post on public forum)
                Pirelli P Zero 295 40 21 $378.75+
                (+ means plus GST)
So the wholesale price on that tyre is $424.32 per tyre.

Based on the price above they are making around $24 per tyre, they may have also negotiated a discount from the supplier which would slightly increase their margin but overall the price is pretty fair for the particular tyre you are after.

            • @jimbobaus: Hi jimbobaus. Is there a shelf life on new tyres? I recently bought new tyres and when I checked the date of manufacture of the tyres they were already 6 years old when fitted. When I complained they told me if the tyres are stored correctly there is nothing to worry about. I tend to disagree.

              • @goegge: officially there is no "shelf life" so to speak, but we would never sell a tyre that had been sitting around longer than 24 months as a rule.

              • @goegge: @goegge
6 years is too long. In Germany they make you take the tyres off the car at 8 years - even if the tread is like new.

I just took a couple of 8yo "like new" tyres off my gfs car because they had micro-cracks in the sidewall.

I would suggest you contact the manufacturer (assuming it's one with local presence) and ask their opinion.

        • @the billy

Kmart Tyre and Auto no longer exists (and they were actually competitive on tyres if you put the screws on them).

Continental bought KTAS off Wesfarmers for $350m in August 2018. The rebrand is called MyCar.

Also a 21 inch rim tyre, try the typical (mod: removed) shop tyre shops… no offence intended. Their clientele would chew through that sized tyre. Tempe Tyres, Ozzy Tyres etc.

        • If you don't mean offence, why use a racist and derogatory term then?

          • +3

@resubaehtgnolhcs: He wants to be racist, just doesn't want to upset an OZBer personally.

You know how these racists are!

        • Ozzy Tyres etc.

From the research I've done, I would completely avoid this place. I'm surprised their previous "deals" have even been left up on this forum!

          • +1

@bobbified: Whats wrong with Ozzy tyres?

            • @aussieprepper: They came to my attention over the last few weeks while I was doing research on tyres. They were advertising 40% off everything in their website. Because I already had a fair idea of the prices, it was really obvious that the prices on their website were heavily jacked up. During the "sale" the Michelins I was looking at had a price of over $800 each. 40% off was still more expensive than everywhere else.

              https://www.ozzytyres.com.au/tyres/michelin-245-35r19-93y-pi… (Says original price is $843. 40% off = $506)

https://www.bobjane.com.au/a/245-35r19-tyres/michelin/pilot-… ($418 each is regular price when not on sale).

Naturally, that lead me to do further searches out of curiosity to see how many other people have commented on that. I read the many negative experiences that people have had. If the reviews alone aren't convincing enough, the replies from their staff also says a lot.

The comments that end up on their Facebook ads are pretty self explanatory too. But they disappear quite soon after.

Read the comments from these past "deals" posted here. There's more, but I've just linked the last two.

    • The problem I have found with local stores is while they do have better prices than online, their stock of tyres can be quite old. You'll get something that's been on the shelf for years rather than a relatively newly manufactured product.

I think it's worth paying a little more for somewhere reputable for that peace of mind.

  • I just bought a set of tyres this afternoon - Michelin PS4S 245/35R19.

Cheapest by far was at Tempe Tyres (Sydney) for $329 each tyre - fitted and balanced. (That's even cheaper than the pre-installation prices from the online tyre places like Tyroola).

Bob Jane/Jax and other tyre shops I found online had them for at least $369 each.

I'm in Melbourne and Bob Jane still agreed to do it for $320 each, fitted and balanced. The price beat saved me $200.

  • Kmart will match online prices. It was some months ago but they not only matched the online price that I had which was considerably cheaper than their price but also did the free wheel alighnment that was included with the online deal. Can’t remember the name of the online mob but they have local fitment centres in most areas.

  • Not sure on that type but found Pirelli and Yokohama very soft compound tyre and wear very easy after some quick take offs back in the day. Buy cheap as possible don't worry about brand, plus I found the cheapest tyre looks better after the light turns green but not for cornering.

      Not a great idea.
Autobilde (German car magazine) tyre test a few years back. Wet braking test from 100kmh had a 90 metre difference between best and worst tyres.

Agree with Pirelli not great comment

Tempe Tyres. They don't advertise their Pirelli prices though. You have to "get price" on their website or call them.

Does it have to be Pirelli? They are the most rubbish premium tyre I know. Wonderful when new but a nightmare once they get to 4mm.

Tempe do Continental Cross Contact UHP and CSC5 SUV (you haven't said what vehicle it's for) for $409. They are good tyres.

Dunlop, Toyo and Hankook for $300-$340

    Chinese junk for $150-$200

Delivery & fitting extra as u are in MEL

    • I remember back in the day I used to use Michelin and it too was soft for my slightly tuned up civic. Its for a Mercedes GL350, I'll check Continental and Hankook.

  • You don't need to buy… You want to buy

    $395 at Tempe tyres

    • wow that's good price for those living in Sydney.

      • They maybe able to post. Could try to use that price to match at a Melbourne shop.

        • I'm in Melbourne and I did that yesterday - Bob Jane matched Tempe Tyres for me, even though Tempe are in sydney.

  • +1

Found a shop on Princess Highway Brother Global that's doing it for $419 fitted and balanced.

    • Brother Global that's doing it for $419 fitted and balanced.

Why not go to Bob Jane who are willing to match Tempe Tyres (and beat them by 10% of the difference)?

You'll save yourself another $100 (over) on a set of 4.

      • +1

I would but will they bother matching in Melbourne with an Sydney based Tempe? I'll try haha

        • They do… They did it for me yesterday and I saved $200!

There's a Pirelli promo at the moment too. Free coffee machine with each set of Prielli tyres.

          https://www.bobjane.com.au/promo/pirelli-coffee-machine-prom…

From their website (Price Match Request)
          https://www.bobjane.com.au/promo/best-tyre-price-guarantee

Bob Jane T-Marts' Best Tyre Price Guarantee applies to any cheaper price found on an online store or in a physical store in Australia. It applies to 'like for like' prices, that is, where the other store's final price, inclusive of fitting, balancing, new tubeless valve, GST, tyre disposal and freight, is lower than our price.

          • @bobbified: thank you bobbified.

          • @bobbified: Tried with one BJ. Because Tempe do not fit in Melbourne, he's charging me $25 to fit per tyre. So their best price of $476 because $459 when Tempe was $409.

Looks like BJ Tmart is priced way too high.

            • @raiseyoursteaks: I don't get it.. Ameris said in his post above that Tempe had it for $395..so even if BJ added $25 each (which they didn't charge me for), it would still only be $420 each. How is it $476?

I used that price match request from the link above and they sent me an email from the Port Melbourne store to confirm the beaten price.

You can probably try another Bob Jane, since the stores are franchised. I'm guessing that franchisee is just trying to squeeze every dollar out of you.
